Today, the Mont Belvieu Area Chamber of Commerce recognized all the nominees for the 2026 Public Servant of the Year. We were so proud to have two of our very best recognized at the luncheon today. The Mont Belvieu Fire Department nominee was Volunteer Firefighter John Cattolico. Firefighter Cattolico is the most active in call response, training, and public relations events. While it takes time away from his family and job, his dedication, drive, and compassion is always present, and he truly defines "service before self". The Mont Belvieu Police Department nominated Officer Bridget Cavanaugh. In just 9 months with MBPD, she has responded to 2,201 calls for service, conducted 427 traffic stops, and made 46 arrests - including 15 DWI arrests. That's 51% of the department's total DWI arrests! Officer Cavanaugh truly embodies the spirit of MBPD and approaches every interaction with a deep sense of duty and purpose. Thank you to BOTH of these amazing first responders for what you do every day to keep MBTX an amazing and safe place to live!

About us
The City of Mont Belvieu is located in Chambers and Liberty Counties in the state of Texas. It is just north of Interstate 10 along State Highway 146. It is estimated that the population in 2026 is approximately 14,000. The first permanent settlers to the area were Henry Griffith and his wife, Amelia Burrow. Both from the Louisiana area. After floating from Louisiana and landing in Mont Belvieu, they decided to settle there. Henry was a cattle rancher and at one time all of Mont Belvieu was used as pasture land for their cattle. Amos Barber became the second settler, and other settlers followed. After years of owning all of the land Griffith sold the deed to the land known today as Mont Belvieu. Henry Griffith died and was buried with no grave marker; Amelia soon followed. A memorial has been erected at the site of an old oak tree and there is a rumor that Amelia was buried just down the hill from where their house once stood, just down the road from Kenefick Veterinary clinic which now borders the Enterprise Products Inc. gas storage facility.

During this week's council meeting, we recognized a couple of our incredible employees for outstanding work. Ryan Adams, a groundskeeper with @[101090551893713], was named our Love MBTX Employee of the Month. Ryan went outside of his typical duties and showed great leadership in rallying the team while assembling the new playground structure at the softball fields at City Park. He took the lead and provided the support to get everyone working together to get the project done on time. Also, City Secretary Allison Dunning was recognized for earning her Texas Registered Municipal Clerk certification. This is no small task. Allison completed 200 hours of individual study and attended two 8-day seminars. Now, with certification in hand, Allison will continue to use her knowledge and experience to modernize and streamline the City Secretary's office to prepare Mont Belvieu for the future.

Recently, City Manager Brian Winningham and Mayor Joey McWilliams recognized 2 of our fantastic staff as "Love MBTX Employees." This recognition goes to our employees who embody incredible customer service and make our city better. 🏅 Donna Abundis is the smiling face working in Eagle Pointe Catering and Hospitality. She always has a positive attitude and goes above and beyond for our residents and customers. Special events booked at Eagle Pointe often come with a request, "We want Donna to be our event attendant!" 🏅 MaKayla Trapp is the City's Aquatics Specialist. She works hard to keep our pool areas safe, professional, and fun. She is dedicated to creating programs, like the Junior Lifeguard Program, that have a lasting impact on our community and beyond. Congratulations to both of these outstanding employees who truly embody the spirit of Love MBTX!
