”Abbiate coraggio e rischiate!” This was the message in my New Year’s Eve fortune cookie while in #Italy 3+ weeks ago. Simply translated, it means: ”Have #courage, and take risks!” I can think of no better advice to start the year. Regardless of your #goals this year (i.e., career, job search, personal, wellbeing, love, travel, etc.), I would echo the fortune cookie message above and strongly encourage you to “be #courageous, and take risks!” All too often in life (and in one’s #career) we “play it safe.” We bypass #opportunities because they appear too risky, or because staying complacent is the safer thing to do. We’re particularly prone to a risk-averse mindset as we age, and tend to play it safe. Well take it from a serial #entrepreneur — not rocking the boat (and playing it safe) often leads to regrets, and missed opportunities. Regardless of your age, I encourage you to take more risks, and challenge yourself to be uncomfortable. Only then will you realize what you’re truly capable of achieving. So in 2026, I hope you can muster up the strength to “abbiate coraggio e rischiate!”. Trust me, you won’t regret it — because in the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take. #LiveLife #NoRegrets

“I’ve always seen myself as someone who does things differently. I don’t follow a set path or look at the people before me and copy their trajectory — that’s just never been who I am. I like to do things my own way and ask myself, ‘How can I make an impact? How can I be different?’” -Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary I absolutely LOVE this perspective — which was the reply of Karine Jean-Pierre when recently asked by a reporter about why her career has differed from other former White House press secretaries, all of whom have pivoted into stereotypical cable news political pundit roles after they left the White House. And when Jean-Pierre was recently asked about whether that absence (from being cable news commentator) was a conscious choice or not, she replied by describing her #career as one that has never been about following a “prescribed route”. Jean-Pierre went onto say that her career has been a “zigzag”, and intentionally so. She believes in this non-traditional and atypical approach (i.e., #strategy) so much so that she’s currently pursuing her desire to tell stories that go beyond politics — and after 20+ years in politics she views her next chapter as “an #opportunity to expand her impact through #storytelling & #mentorship.” I think we can all learn a very valuable lesson from Jean-Pierre — that career pivots are possible for anyone, regardless of your age, gender, or social views — and that #careers can be circuitous, rather than linear. As a 51 year-old woman, Jean-Pierre is the first Black person (and first openly LGBTQ individual) to ever hold the role of White House press secretary. And while she plans to remain engaged in civic #discourse, Jean-Pierre is fearlessly moving her career in a different direction. Karine is not only embracing emcee opportunities (note: she’s hosting this year’s annual African American Film Critics Awards), but is also pursuing book #publishing (she recently published her memoir “Independent”) and movie creation opportunities (having recently bought the rights to the stories of the first Black women to serve in the White House press corps, and wants #Hollywood to tell their stories). So regardless of your career stage (early/mid/late), if you have an itch to do some thing new then take a page out of Jean-Pierre’s book and pursue a new career path in your areas of interest, while simultaneously leveraging your experience and passion to do so. #pathlesstraveled
