CSS Employee-owner, Kulko is a key contributor on NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s UCAPS (NOAA Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System) team, supporting the development and refinement of advanced atmospheric sounding products. NUCAPS provides critical information on temperature, moisture, ozone, and other variables that help forecasters and climate experts understand conditions throughout the atmosphere. Kulko’s work centers on improving the algorithm behind Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR)—key indicator of Earth’s energy balance and climate system. She supports NOAA’s AWS cloud‑based mission‑long reprocessing efforts, ensuring continuous, accurate data records using up‑to‑date algorithms. These long‑term datasets are essential for monitoring Earth’s changing #climate and supporting sustainability planning. She also contributes to AEROSE campaigns, which include dedicated radiosonde launches over tropical oceans to validate NUCAPS temperature and humidity profiles. These observations strengthen NOAA’s ability to produce more reliable weather and climate insights. Her work ultimately supports NOAA’s mission to maintain healthy ecosystems, communities, and economies that are resilient to change—critical as natural disaster costs continue to climb into the tens and hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Kulko’s expertise helps provide the foundational science behind forecasts, warnings, and climate assessments used by scientists, policymakers, and emergency managers. CSS is proud to spotlight Kulko’s contributions and her commitment to strengthening NOAA’s climate and atmospheric science capabilities! 🧐 Learn more about CSS's employee-owners and their work: https://lnkd.in/eMKDqwx2 #NOAA #ClimateResilience

A few password best practices can go a long way to keeping your digital accounts safe! ✴️ Effective passwords are long passwords: Aim for a minimum of 16 characters, as length is the strongest defense against automated code breaking. ✴️ Use passphrases: Combine 4 or more random, unrelated words (e.g., Lion, Cake, Foot, Cloud) to create memorable yet secure phrases. ✴️ Let all your accounts be unique (just like you 😊): Never reuse passwords across multiple sites/services, that way if one account is breached, then your other accounts are still safe. ✴️ Don’t get personal: Avoid using birthdays, pet names, hometowns, or other words that people/bots can find on social media. For storage of all your passwords use tools like a password manager and add an 🔐 extra layer of defense with Multifactor Authentication (MFA), or Passkeys. At CSS, we provide IT solutions that meet organizations’ stringent requirements. Our security system professionals and auditors are certified and accredited! This past spring, CSS employee-owners and ISciences, L.L.C. partners, supported the development and implementation of The NOAA National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS)’s Mississippi River Basin Drought & Water Dashboard (https://bit.ly/MSRB) on Drought.gov (https://www.drought.gov/) — a powerful resource designed to support the 31 states and 40% of the U.S. population that depend on the Mississippi River Basin. 🗺️ 🌐 This tool brings together #drought, water, and impact data from across federal agencies into one easy‑to‑use dashboard, offering customizable maps, clear context, and timely information for decision‑makers across the region. CSS employee-owners John Frimmel, and Islam Awad and our partners at ISciences, L.L.C., contributed to development efforts alongside NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Environmental Information (#NCEI), the National Weather Service, the US Army Corps of Engineers , the U.S. Coast Guard , the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), along with state and local agencies. From the MS River Basin Dashboard’s initial design to stakeholder feedback sessions, to navigating technical challenges like data processing pipelines and server migrations, the team worked collaboratively to build a reliable, user‑friendly product. Their efforts resulted in a dynamic dashboard that helps communities better understand drought and water conditions — now and into the future. CSS is proud to support this incredible work! #NIDIS #Drought #WeatherReady

One of the most pervasive cyberattacks is through email #phishing, where scammers will try to deceive people by presenting themselves as trusted organizations in order to steal their credentials and digital lives. Be proactive in avoiding phishing attacks by: ⏸️ Pause - don't get too excited...take a moment to check where that email is coming from. Look at the sender addresses to see if they are mismatched. 🖱️ Hover - if you don't know where the email is coming from, don't click the links or open attachments. Unsolicited URLs and attachments may lead to unknown websites and security risks. ✅ Verify - check the organizations website or app instead of clicking on links or attachments. If something seems off, report it to your IT department. 💡 Learn more about CSS's IT and Safety Services: https://lnkd.in/dFFAeXXn #CSS #CybersecurityAwareness #DigitalSafety

CSS Employee-owner, Ben Glass, plays a key role on NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s Atmospheric Sciences and Technology Applications (ASTA) Fire Detection Team, where he contributes to the development and validation of next generation #wildfiredetection capabilities. Working alongside subject matter experts and scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ben supports efforts to evaluate and improve experimental satellite fire detection capabilities within the Next Generation Fire System (NGFS) algorithm. One of Ben’s major ongoing efforts focuses on location analysis for NGFS, a system that currently operates at a coarse resolution of 2 kilometers. Ben is helping refine this approach by verifying NGFS detections against high‑resolution data from Landsat 8 and 9—down to 30 meters. This work aims to confidently narrow fire locations from a 2×2 km footprint to a more precise 1×1 km area. This improvement matters. Because GOES satellites (https://www.goes.noaa.gov/) provide data every five minutes, enhanced location accuracy can help detect fires at their earliest stages—supporting faster response and reducing risks to communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. Ben’s contributions strengthen NOAA’s ability to deliver timely, actionable fire intelligence to partners and decision‑makers. CSS is proud to highlight Ben’s work, which directly supports #NOAA’s mission to help build safe, resilient communities in the face of increasing wildfire impacts. #NOAA #WildfireDetection
