Today, Catalog Commits is Generally Available for Unity Catalog managed Delta tables. Historically, Delta and Unity Catalog operated side-by-side – Delta managing transactional state at the storage layer, and Unity Catalog governing access at the catalog layer. As organizations scaled across more engines and workloads, this design led to new coordination challenges. Now, Delta and Unity Catalog are co-evolving to address these challenges and deliver more interoperable, governed, and performant lakehouses.
