Art Fund is one of the UK’s most impactful charities for connecting museums, people, and art and their mission aligns strongly with DS+R’s commitment to expanding public access to cultural venues. For this reason, we are honored that V&A East Storehouse was shortlisted for Art Fund's 'Museum of the Year', the most prestigious UK prize in the sector. Merging museum storage and radical public access, Storehouse breaks down physical barriers to get visitors closer than ever before to their national collection. Thank you Art Fund for the recognition! Photos by Iwan Baan
About us
Founded in 1981, Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) is a design studio whose practice spans the fields of architecture, urban design, installation art, multi-media performance, digital media, and print. With a focus on cultural and civic projects, DS+R’s work addresses the changing role of institutions and the future of cities. The studio is based in New York and is comprised of over 100 architects, designers, artists and researchers, led by four partners—Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Charles Renfro and Benjamin Gilmartin. DS+R's cross genre work has been distinguished with TIME’s "100 Most Influential People" list and the first grant awarded in the field of architecture from the MacArthur Foundation, which identified Diller and Scofidio as, “architects who have created an alternative form of architectural practice that unites design, performance, and electronic media with cultural and architectural theory and criticism. Their work explores how space functions in our culture and illustrates that architecture, when understood as the physical manifestation of social relationships, is everywhere, not just in buildings.”

We recently said goodbye to STEVEN FORMAN, AIA who has been a Principal and Director of Operations at Diller Scofidio + Renfro for 12 years and who has known Liz since their days at Cooper Union. An architect in his own right, Steven has worked across a full range of DS+R projects and across all facets of the studio’s operations. DS+R will not be the same without him! Thank you again, Steven, for all you have done. While you are irreplaceable, we have been lucky to welcome Robert Clemens as our new Director of Operations at DS+R.
After twelve years as Principal and Director of Operations at Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) it has come time for me to step away from the Studio. I have had a good long run over the past forty-seven years of professional practice. I will miss the DS+R Studio, a place of great brilliance. I have known Liz Diller for over fifty years since our days at The Cooper Union and hold her, Charles Renfro, Ben Gilmartin, and of course Ric Scofidio, close to my architectonic heart. From the Partners and Leaders at DS+R, I expect more great things. From those of you coming up in the Studio and elsewhere, remember, our generation has spoken. It is now your turn to speak up and make a difference. At DS+R I led and contributed to all facets of the management of the Legal, Financial, Human Resources, IT, and Facilities, along with supporting the Business Development + Communications teams of a one hundred plus size firm with significant client and financial responsibilities. In order to bring the Studio's work to life under the Department of State Overseas Building Operations IDIQ program in support of embassy projects, I took on the Facilities Security Officer (FSO) role in order to successfully interface with the Department of State (DS), the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defense Counterintelligence + Security Agency (DCSA). Foundational years in the 1970’s included The Cooper Union studying with Hejduk, Slutzky, Abraham, Scofidio and Eisenman, then with Ungers and Rowe at the Cornell University Graduate School, and at the American Academy in Rome under the Dinkeloo Traveling Fellowship. Decades of professional practice working with and in the firms of John Hejduk, Richard Meier, Charles Gwathmey + Robert Siegel, and now Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) has permitted me to build or contribute to multiple complex projects including Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum Renovation + Addition, Paul Rudolph's Yale Architecture School + Addition, Phillip Johnson's AT+T building into Sony World Headquarters, The High Museum, The Frankfurt Museum of Decorative Arts, The CUNY Graduate Center, multiple Libraries including the country's largest, Allen County Public Library, the Spielberg Residence, the Triplex Penthouse and many New York City residences. During my DS+R tenure, a Studio with broad ambitions, creativity and commitment to serious and inventive architecture (and non-architecture) unique in our profession, I contributed to the ongoing project management of the High Line, The Shed, The Museum of Modern Renovation + Expansion, Google's Pier 57, The Broad Expansion, the MIT Metropolitan Warehouse, the V+A East Storehouse, PRD Montparnasse, the exhibition Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design, and many more.

Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women in Qatar has been recognized with a RIBA Middle East Award 2025. As the region’s first purpose-built mosque and center for women, Al-Mujadilah was designed to be a place of learning, reflection, and community. With classrooms, a library of 8,000+ volumes, gardens, a café, and a kinetic 39‑meter minaret, every detail was shaped to foster connection and empowerment. We're honored to receive this award, congratulations to this year's awardees! Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/epNVDuq5
