🎥 🇺🇦 “Supporting Ukraine is also investing in people,” says the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, reflecting on his visit to the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
This week, a delegation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium, together with Enabel CEO Jean Van Wetter, visited several sites supported under the BE-Relieve programme:
🔸 Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital, where Enabel has set up two new operating theatres for craniomaxillofacial surgery and is delivering several other projects.
🔸 Chernihiv Regional Blood Centre, which receives comprehensive support worth around EUR 4 million. Enabel is funding a major renovation of the building, new equipment, and the strengthening of quality systems, management and donor engagement, in partnership with Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen
🔸 Bosch Junior Academy – a training hub for future automotive professionals launched by Enabel and Bosch Ukraine at the Chernihiv Higher Vocational School
🔸 Novi Petrivtsi Lyceum, where, with Belgium’s support, a shelter for 620 students has been built and the school kitchen upgraded in line with national school nutrition reform standards
At various stops along the route, we were joined by Ukraine’s Minister of Health Viktor Liashko, Minister of Education and Science Andrii Butenko, and Deputy Minister of Health for European Integration Vasyl Strilka. In the Chernihiv region, the delegation was hosted by Governor Viacheslav Chaus, while in the Kyiv region we were accompanied by Deputy Governor Zhanna Osypenko.
A heartfelt thank you to all our partners – and to everyone who continues building Ukraine's future despite the challenges of war. Belgium stands proudly alongside you.

🇧🇪🇺🇦 Celebrating Belgium’s National Day in Kyiv
For the second year in a row, Belgium’s National Day was celebrated in the unique surroundings of Saint Sophia of Kyiv, a place where history, culture and living heritage come together.
This year’s celebration was organised by Team Belgium: the Embassy of Belgium in Ukraine, the Belgian Ministry of Defence and Enabel in Ukraine. Beyond marking National Day, the event was an opportunity to reaffirm Belgium’s #solidarity with Ukraine and the strong partnership that continues to grow between the two countries.
We were especially pleased to count on the generous support of Belgian businesses active in Ukraine, whose continued presence and commitment, despite the challenges of Russia's war of aggression, reflect their confidence in the country’s future.
A memorable performance by the Military Band of the Separate Artillery Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine set the tone for the evening, while some very special Belgian guests, the Smurfs, made sure to welcome attendees with smiles and good humour.
Thank you to everyone who joined the celebration. Watch the aftermovie and relive the atmosphere of the evening.
And one more question: did you spot the Smurfs? 😉

🏫 Rebuilding schools means investing in Ukraine's future.
In Kyinka, in Ukraine's Chernihiv region, the thermal modernisation of the Kostiantyn Svetenok Lyceum has been completed with support from Belgium through Enabel’s BE-Relieve programme.
After the school was damaged by Russian shelling in 2022, the local community restored access to in-person learning.
Enabel contributed to making the school building more resilient and energy efficient by upgrading the heating and ventilation systems and insulating the façade and roof.
The results are already visible: during the last heating season, the school significantly reduced its heat consumption, generating savings that local authorities can now reinvest in other community priorities. ⚡
Beyond energy efficiency, Enabel also supported improvements to the school environment, including safer shelter facilities, better accessibility through a new ramp, upgraded sports hall lighting, and improvements to the school grounds.
🤝 Recently, the school brought together partners to mark the completion of the works.
As Ukraine continues its recovery, investing in resilient, energy-efficient public infrastructure helps strengthen communities, and support the country's long-term alignment with European sustainability standards.

During a recent visit to Dnipro, Ambassador Luc JACOBS and Olivier Thery, International Cooperation Policy Advisor, had the opportunity to meet with members of the Inspira Business Club and gain first-hand insight into the realities of doing business in one of Ukraine’s key industrial centres.
Local entrepreneurs shared both their achievements and the challenges they face, including the need to increase export quotas for Ukrainian steel pipe products, a matter of significant importance for the region’s economy and its continued integration into European markets. Among the participants was Anton Kistol, a researcher at the Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum of Dnipro and representative of the Dnipro Centre for Business History, whose research on the history of the Belgian Consulate in Katerynoslav reflects the deep historical roots of Belgian-Ukrainian economic relations in the region.
The visit continued at the Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum of Dnipro, where the delegation explored the museum’s collections and the remarkable gathering of Polovtsian stone statues (“babas”) — unique examples of medieval stone sculpture created by Turkic nomadic peoples. Many of these artefacts were evacuated from areas affected by the war, thanks to the tireless efforts of museum workers.
A warm meeting with museum representatives from the Dnipro and Donetsk regions showed their strong commitment to preserving the rich heritage and memory of Belgian industrialists in eastern Ukraine — a legacy that currently faces the threat of physical destruction due to Russian aggression.

What do Ukraine and Belgium have in common? The story of our countries’ relationship goes back much further than many people might think.
Around 20,000 Belgians once lived in Ukraine’s east, while Belgian investors helped build Kyiv’s tram network and funicular.
Here are some surprising facts from a shared history stretching back more than a century.

🦾 An injury may change the course of a life. But it should never define its future.
Belgium was honoured to join the annual Superhumans Reunion 2026 in Odesa, home to Ukraine’s third Superhumans Center.
🇧🇪 Earlier this year, Enabel, together with the Superhumans Centre and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, launched a landmark partnership to strengthen cranio-maxillofacial surgery in Ukraine. The project will support the establishment of centres of excellence in Lviv and Kyiv, bringing together the treatment of the most complex cases, advanced surgical training, structured patient pathways, and long-term rehabilitation.
To complement the capacity-building interventions, Enabel is supporting the modernisation of two surgical theatres at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital, which will be equipped to meet the needs of cranio-maxillofacial surgery. We also donated a high-capacity generator to power the Superhumans Centre in Odesa.
The initiative also brings together Belgian expertise and innovation. Belgian company Materialise contributes cutting-edge technologies that help strengthen Ukraine’s capacity for complex reconstructive care.
