It’s National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, and we’re celebrating the moments that matter most. For Enhabit Speech Language Pathologist Ramiro F., SLP, care is about helping patients regain confidence and independence in the place they feel most comfortable — home. “Mrs. Butler came to me after a recent surgery that impacted her independence. Before surgery, she had been living on her own, but during recovery she needed additional caregiver support. Today, she’s back to living independently, with family checking in regularly. She told me I helped ‘dig her out of a black hole,’ and while she knows there’s still work ahead, it’s been incredibly rewarding to help her regain her independence.” Ready to make an impact? Not all nursing careers stay at the bedside. Meet Senior Care Transitions Coordinator Macie W., LPN, who turned her clinical background into a new way of making an impact through patient education and advocacy. "My experience as a field nurse gave me firsthand insight into caring for patients in the home and the importance of education after hospitalization to prevent readmissions," she said. "It also showed me how many patients lack support, which strengthened my passion for advocating for them." That perspective helps Macie connect with patients in meaningful ways and speak clearly to the value of home healthcare. For nurses considering a similar transition, she offers this advice: "Lean into your clinical background — it's your biggest strength. Sales can sound intimidating, but it's really about building relationships, educating, and advocating for your patients. Give yourself grace, stay open and be confident in what you bring to the table." Your clinical experience can take you further than you think. This Military Appreciation Month, we're spotlighting Emily L., RN, whose military service helped shape the nurse and teammate she is today. "As a nurse with 15 years of experience, I can honestly say the military shaped me professionally," she said. "It taught me to be respectful, compassionate and hardworking, and to always do the right thing — even when no one is watching. It also instilled loyalty and camaraderie and the importance of having your teammates' backs." That same mindset continues to guide her work each day. "What I enjoy most about working at Enhabit is my patients," she said. "Knowing they need my help and can't fully care for themselves at home makes me proud to be there for them. Their smiles when I arrive, the thanks I receive when I leave and the many thank-you cards remind me I am making a positive difference in their lives." To those who have served and continue to serve — thank you for your service.
