Elder fraud is becoming more prevalent, more sophisticated, and more costly. Each year, millions of older Americans are targeted by scams ranging from romance and tech support schemes to government impersonation and financial fraud, contributing to billions in losses. These crimes are often designed to build trust over time, making them harder to detect and even harder to report. At the FBI, addressing these threats requires a multidisciplinary approach. Forensic accountants, computer scientists, and digital forensic examiners work alongside special agents to trace financial activity and uncover the networks behind these schemes. For those with technical or financial expertise, joining the FBI is an opportunity to apply your skills to investigations that protect vulnerable populations and address complex, evolving threats. Large-scale investigations often depend on coordination across agencies — and Operation Sweet Silence is one example of that work in action. Through a joint effort between the FBI, DEA, and multiple local and state partners, law enforcement personnel dismantled an armed drug trafficking organization operating in Columbus, Georgia. The investigation included rigorous surveillance and coordinated enforcement actions to disrupt the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, while also removing firearms tied to the operation. In total, 10 defendants were sentenced to more than a collective 108 years in prison, reflecting the scale of the investigation and the impact of sustained collaboration. For FBI special agents, cases like this are an opportunity to demonstrate how partnerships and investigative strategy can be used to take down complex criminal networks. Step into the special agent role and watch how your work leads to tangible results that protects local communities. Be a part of creating a safer, more secure future. During National Police Week, the FBI honors the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country. Among them are the FBI Police: sworn officers who serve as first responders and safeguard Bureau personnel, facilities, and national security information. From monitoring access points and responding to emergencies to supporting major events and investigations, their role is essential to FBI operations. FBI Police officers complete extensive training, including the Uniform Police Training Program and advanced field instruction, preparing them to respond to both routine and high-consequence situations. Just as important is the culture they build — one rooted in teamwork, accountability, and support for one another. FBI Police are also well-positioned to transition to a career as a special agent as they grow within the Bureau. For those looking to serve in a position that combines protection and purpose, the FBI Police officer role may be your path forward. Be a part of creating a safer, more secure future.
