Most ratings were unchanged, with EMEA seeing the most upgrades and APAC the most downgrades. Fitch Ratings' Global Financial Institutions Ratings Trends Monitor highlights rating actions on publicly rated financial institutions to which Fitch Ratings assigns Long-Term Issuer Default Ratings or Insurer Financial Strength Ratings. The US-Iran war has had no direct effect on supranationals’ ratings, but a longer-than-expected disruption in the Strait of Hormuz or renewed escalation could result in higher commodity prices. This in turn could pressure sovereign borrowers and increase demand for multilateral loans. The surge in energy and related prices poses a challenge for many borrowing countries, and these pressures would mount were the strait to remain closed. This scenario could result in renewed demand for supranationals to support development and infrastructure rebuilding in some of the affected countries.
