Faced with a population projected to more than double by 2045, Johnson County, Texas adopted a data-driven thoroughfare plan to address critical challenges, including congestion, high crash rates and inadequate pedestrian and transit infrastructure. Backed by a $60 million voter-approved bond, this plan will provide residents with safer, less congested and expanded access and connectivity throughout the county. The City of Fort Worth secured $90 million in state funding from the Texas Water Development Board to advance improvements that will reduce flood risk and protect a residential area that has faced repeated flooding for decades. Before securing state funding, the City expected to build the Upper Lebow Flood Mitigation project in small phases over many years; now, the full project can move forward on an accelerated timeline. Freese and Nichols collaborated with the City to support project development and help navigate the competitive state funding process. Bringing small and minority-owned businesses into city projects provides public investment to reach every corner of the community. These partnerships create jobs and open doors for businesses that might be overlooked, leading to opportunities that last beyond a single project. Being named Prime Consultant of the Year by the City of Austin Small and Minority Business Resources at their 20th Annual Diversity in Contracting Awards Ceremony reflects Freese and Nichols’ commitment to these values. We believe collaboration drives progress, and we thank our partners for the trust and teamwork that make these successes possible.
