    Researchers at the University of Salford (UK) have spent the last decade focused on improving the safety and stability of walking aids for older adults. By integrating FUTEK load cells into walking frames and rollators, researchers captured precise force data directly from the frame legs, helping quantify how users and devices interact during real-world movement. The results of their work led to: 🔹 Develop one of the first methods to objectively measure walking-aid stability (Costamagna et al., 2017) 🔹 Evaluate rollator performance during everyday tasks like turning and navigating obstacles (Costamagna et al., 2019) 🔹 Identify risky behaviors and design limitations in traditional walking frames (Thies et al., 2020) 🔹 Inform the development of Walk Safe®, the first biomechanics-informed walking frame (Thies et al., 2023; 2025) We’re honored that our sensors have played a role in research that directly impacts safer mobility, assistive device innovation, and clinical training guidance used around the world.
