GOTHAM FC KICKS OFF A SUMMER OF SOCCER IN STYLE Ahead of hosting the World Cup final, the NY/NJ area is kicking off a summer of soccer in headline-making fashion. At last Saturday’s Bats vs. Boston Legacy FC showdown, NWSL’s Gotham FC welcomed USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, who ended her U.S. tour alongside NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. 🎟️ Mayor Mamdani announced a partnership with Gotham that offered 1,000 $5 tickets for the big match. The Mamdani x Gotham FC ticket collection sold out in less than an hour and contributed to the 11,038-person attendance, the fourth-highest for a regular-season game in Gotham’s history. WIS member Pardeep Cattry’s coverage for CBS Sports has more here: https://lnkd.in/e2Qa8sRh 📣 The primary goal of Hayes' U.S. tour was to see her National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) national team players in action outside of her team sessions. Hayes, who has often stated that leading the way in the business of soccer is not just about what you do on the field, praised Gotham and Mamdani’s initiative: "I think our sport should be accessible to everyone," Hayes said. “I think it's a fantastic initiative for everyone here at Gotham…bringing different audiences to the game, I think, should very much be the future of soccer within the country." 💡We love the creative ways Gotham FC is working with the NY/NJ community to bring accessible and inspirational initiatives to everyone. Do you have ideas for your local club? Reach out to management and see if you can get the ball rolling. If you don’t work for a club, supporters groups often have strong ties to the team staff. New industry initiatives have to start somewhere! 💼 If you’re ready to join Gotham FC, you’re in luck: the club is hiring for several roles! Check them out, then apply, apply, apply! https://lnkd.in/ehs4xdbC 📧 WIS members can also connect with Gotham recruiter Claudia Porras

This May, Gotham FC proudly celebrates AANHPI Heritage Month, honoring the stories and identities of the players and staff who help shape the game. This artwork, created by GFC designer Dianna Higaki, brings to life the meaningful symbols shared by Andrea Kitahata, Jaedyn Shaw, and Teagan Wy - each reflecting their heritage and personal story. The flags, floral motifs, and traditional design elements represent their Japanese, Vietnamese, and Filipino backgrounds. Swipe to learn more about every element ✨ #AAPI #AANHPI

I’ve been around sports for a long time. From the professional level to club sports, I’ve experienced the sports industry as an owner, coach, player, and general manager. One thing has always been clear. There is an unwritten rule: follow the status quo, stay quiet, and remain neutral, especially when it comes to social issues. For those who know me, I’ve never been good at silence. I’ve always believed that when something matters, your stance should be clear. Has that gotten me in trouble at times? Absolutely. But I’ve never regretted standing on what I believe is right. Professional sports has traditionally leaned toward neutrality, or what many would call conventional conservatism. Too often, owners and organizations avoid anything that challenges that comfort zone. Then Emily Tisch Sussman said Hold my beer. Dystany Spurlock and the Foxxtecca team (Kellie Crawford, Tamara Washington) were invited to the Gotham FC profesional womens soccer game at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey the other day, and it was one of the most enjoyable professional sporting events I’ve been to in a long time. The colors, the branding, the energy, the crowd, the culture, it all felt alive. But what stood out to me most was the signage throughout the stadium. There were large banners speaking directly to social issues: trans rights, women’s rights, Black social justice, and basic human rights. Those banners stayed up for the entire match. I have never seen that at a professional sporting event. What Gotham FC did may seem small to some, but it was powerful. They created space inside a professional sports environment where marginalized voices could be seen and heard. Whether everyone agrees with every message is not the point. The point is that the space existed. In an industry where equality, inclusion, and social justice are too often softened, ignored, or pushed to the side, this was a breath of fresh air. Emily Tisch Sussman has already been a strong voice for women’s empowerment, but seeing her organization provide visible space for broader social justice issues hit differently. Gotham FC should be studied as a blueprint for what modern sports organizations can be. And Emily Tisch Sussman should be recognized as a blueprint for ownership that is not afraid to lead with conviction, humanity, and purpose. The times we are living in require more than neutrality. They require courage. Kellie Crawford Foxxtecca
