  • 🚑 Wee-ooo wee-ooo! Can you hear the ambulance? That sound means help is on the way. During EMS Week, we proudly celebrate the EMS professionals and first responders who answer the call every single day — bringing lifesaving care, compassion and hope to our community when it matters most. This week at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, we’re showing our appreciation by providing free lunches for our EMS partners and hosting educational sessions led by our ER, Trauma and Stroke physicians on topics including STEMI care, difficult airways, needle decompression and thrombectomies. Each year, approximately 10 million patients receive care in HCA Healthcare emergency rooms, and many depend on EMS professionals for critical treatment and safe transport during some of life’s most urgent moments. To all EMS professionals: thank you for your courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to caring for others. We are grateful for everything you do. #EMSWeek #ThankYouEMS #EMSprovideers #firstresponders HCA Healthcare

  • Please join us in cheering on our colorectal surgeon Dr. Andrew Schlussel as he competes in Jacksonville's first Ironman competition on Saturday May 16. Dr. Schlussel will join approximately 1,700 people who will swim 2.4 miles, ride a bicycle for 112 miles, then run 26.2-miles, all in under 7 hours! Dr. Schlussel will join athletes who will participate in Ironman across Jacksonville from the downtown riverbank area, all the way down to Nocatee and back. Go Dr. Schlussel! RUN, BIKE and SWIM your best race. We are proud of you. Based on recommendations from HCA Healthcare and the American Heart Association, incorporating running, biking, or swimming is an excellent way to improve cardiovascular health, boost mood, and manage stress. Running, biking, and swimming are all excellent, high-impact or low-impact, cardiovascular activities with swimming offering a unique, full-body, low-impact option suitable for all ages. Swimming can also improve mood, reduce anxiety for people with fibromyalgia, and provide a calming, zero-gravity environment. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week, which can be achieved through any of these methods. • Congratulations to Rapid Response Nurse Sharon Prescod, RN, on being named the 2026 Nurse of the Year at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital. Sharon is a true example of clinical excellence, patient advocacy, and steady leadership. In some of the most critical moments, she brings calm to chaos—helping stabilize the sickest patients and ensuring they receive the highest level of care. Her impact is felt across the ICU and throughout the hospital, where she continually helps elevate patient outcomes. Sharon’s journey is equally inspiring. She began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1996, became an LPN in 2009, and achieved her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse in 2014. Her dedication to growth led her from Hematology/Oncology to the ICU, and ultimately to her current role as a Rapid Response Nurse. In addition to her clinical work, Sharon actively contributes to advancing nursing practice as a member of both the Professional Nursing Practice Council and the ICU Practice Council. Thank you, Sharon, for your unwavering commitment to excellence and compassionate care, and congratulations! HCA Healthcare
