ICA has some news. Marna Cloete, President and CEO of Ivanhoe Mines, has been elected Vice Chair of the International Copper Association. From leading the development of the Kamoa Kakula Copper Complex in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to championing education through the Kamoa Centre of Excellence. Marna brings powerful leadership and a global perspective to ICA. “I’ve always believed in the power of collaboration, and that’s what makes this opportunity with ICA so meaningful to me. Bringing together leaders from across the global copper industry to share ideas, tackle challenges, and support a more sustainable future is exciting. I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to the work ahead with the ICA community,” said Marna. 🇨🇱 The world will need 42 million tonnes of copper by 2040. A significant share of that must come from Chile and the Andean region. The question is not whether the copper is there, it’s whether regulatory and investment conditions allow it to be delivered to markets on time. We had the opportunity to explore this and many other challenges at our International Copper Association Day (ICA Day) in Santiago with outstanding experts from around the world. I had the opportunity to open the day alongside the Subsecretario de Minería Álvaro González Gorroño (Ministerio de Minería de Chile) setting the stage for discussions on the evolving role of copper in a rapidly changing global landscape. From scaling innovation in mining operations to building stronger, more integrated partnerships across the value chain, the conversations reflected both the complexity of the challenges ahead and the determination to address them together. I’m especially grateful to all the speakers and participants who shared their insights so openly. These exchanges are what make ICA day so valuable and what continue to push our industry forward. CESCO Week is in full swing — and today marks an important milestone for the International Copper Association. ICA has signed its first collaboration agreement with Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) 🤝🎓, one of Chile’s most innovative and forward-looking universities 🇨🇱 This partnership is built around three key priorities:  🔹 Building future talent 👩🏭🎓  Equipping the next generation with the skills needed for a modern, sustainable copper industry.  🔹 Driving innovation 🔬🤝  Bridging academia and industry to advance research and tackle real-world challenges.  🔹 Strengthening global leadership 🌍⚡  Driving leadership in responsible mining and the energy transition. The agreement is part of UDD’s “Mining of the Future Initiative” — a platform that connects research, innovation, and public-private collaboration to position the university as a regional hub for critical minerals. Founded in 1990, UDD has become a leading knowledge center in Latin America and a natural partner as we work together to shape the future of mining. “We are proud to support UDD and connect with the next generation of leaders who will drive Chile’s development and the responsible production of a material essential to the energy transition and human progress,” said ICA President Juan Ignacio Diaz.
