Help us celebrate another HUGE win for one of our own 🎉 “It Starts With the Arts” Campaign, the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable is thrilled to announce the selected artists from their citywide visual art and poetry competition—recognizing and celebrating the talent of New York City students. Our High School Trailblazer Senior, Elienai, has been named a winner of the “It Starts With the Arts” 2026 Student Artist & Poets citywide competition! Her work will be featured in campaign materials advocating for arts education for all—and raising awareness around the cost-of-living challenges impacting the arts education workforce. They did it. Two of our senior students represented Inwood Academy on an international stage in Colombia, delivering a full workshop in Spanish to an audience of 53 educators and school leaders. The response was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting not only their confidence and preparation, but their deep understanding of their learning and ability to lead beyond the classroom. As shared by event organizer Juan Pablo Aristizabal: “Inwood Academy's participation was invaluable… truly inspiring. You could see all the work that went into it.” This moment is a powerful reflection of what’s possible when students are given the tools, opportunities, and support to lead. At Inwood Academy, we don’t take leadership lightly. Our students live it.

Big brothers. Real conversations. Lasting impact. Our 12th grade senior boys recently spent time with our 5th grade boys through our Boys Club initiative—a space intentionally designed to build trust, encourage honesty, and support growth. Conversations ranged from school and friendships to bullying, behavior, and navigating real-life challenges. Nothing was off limits. What made this experience meaningful was not just the dialogue, but the connection. Our seniors stepped into true leadership—creating a safe, supportive environment where younger students felt seen, heard, and valued. At Inwood Academy for Leadership, we believe leadership is not just taught—it is practiced, modeled, and lived. Two 12th grade students from Inwood Academy for Leadership are about to take an international stage, presenting at the prestigious ResearchED Conference in Bogotá, Colombia tomorrow Their presentation, "The Science of Learning in Action," shares how evidence-based teaching practices — direct instruction, retrieval practice, and whole-novel reading — have transformed their academic achievement. And they're telling this story in their own words, representing not just our school, but their entire community. This is what it looks like when students from underserved communities get access to world-class instruction. These young women didn't just benefit from the science of learning — they became its ambassadors. Inwood Academy serves 932 students in New York City, 90% of whom qualify for free meals and 90% of whom speak a language other than English at home.
