  • "Because we know that identity is what OCD attacks, and that's why we can't afford to not consider culture." OCD affects nearly 240 million people worldwide, impacting individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and identities. At the IOCDF, we acknowledge the additional barriers many face in accessing care—barriers often shaped by racial or ethnic identity, gender, or geographic location. That's why we are so grateful for the important work of individuals like Dr. Darlene M. Davis Goodwine, IOCDF's 2025 Patricia Perkins Service Award Winner. Dr. Davis Goodwine is a longstanding advocate for accessibility within the IOCDF community, known for her steadfast work on increasing access to care for African Americans with OCD. A clinician, researcher, and educator, she founded Aidan Behavioral Health and leads a research lab focused on culturally competent OCD treatment. Her contributions—including leading forums and mentoring future clinicians—have advanced the IOCDF’s mission by promoting equity, expanding access, and centering culture in clinical care and advocacy. Donate today ♥️ iocdf.org/donate-research "Receiving the IOCDF Michael Jenike Young Investigator Award during my postdoctoral fellowship was truly transformative for my career. The grant gave me the opportunity to conduct practice-based research directly within community mental health settings—work that is both urgently needed and often underfunded. With IOCDF support, our team was able to collaborate with community therapists, youth, and families to better understand how exposure-based CBT is delivered in publicly funded clinics and how it can be adapted to meet the needs of young people from marginalized backgrounds. This funding allowed us to develop the RESPECT Toolkit, a free resource that offers concrete, culturally responsive guidance for delivering OCD and anxiety treatment. The IOCDF Research Fund made it possible to generate knowledge that can meaningfully improve access to effective care for diverse young people with OCD and anxiety. Donating to the IOCDF supports early-career researchers and innovative, real-world projects like ours, projects that have a direct impact on clinical practice and help ensure that evidence-based treatments truly serve all families who need them." – Amanda L. Sanchez
