  • If an officer or employee isn’t feeling their best, they can’t provide the best service to our community. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing our employees the best physical, mental, and spiritual care available. For our employees who want it, one of our resources is our Chaplaincy Unit, a team redesigned by Sheriff T.K. Waters. This two-person team, Pastor Cory McDonald and Chaplain Greg Farah, offer spiritual counseling and support to every employee who needs it. They ride with our officers, pray with our recruit classes, and offer a range of other services. They also work with partners throughout the community to support a variety of faiths and beliefs. In the latest episode of "Inside JSO," we’re sitting down with Sheriff Waters and our agency chaplains to talk more about the importance of our Chaplaincy Unit. • Officer Antonio Richardson joined Fox News this morning for a live interview to discuss the connection he made with a young man on top of the Dames Point Bridge in April. The young man was ready to take his own life. Thankfully, he took Officer Richardson’s hand and stepped back. Officer Richardson, who is also a pastor, and the young man remain in contact to this day, and the impactful interaction has gotten international attention. We hope it will inspire others to get help and take mental health seriously. If you’re struggling with thoughts of suicide, please reach out to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. It is a free resource available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is what we are here for. This is why we do what we do. We care about you. The world is a better place with you in it.

  • Yes, you can text 911. We’re always here when you need us. Even when you can’t talk on the phone. If you’re in an emergency, and you can’t call us, text us. Texts to 9-1-1 take the same priority as 9-1-1 calls. Our dispatchers can still see your location, provide instant response, and get our officers to you quickly. So far this year, we’ve answered more than 660 texts for help. • "9-1-1, what’s your emergency?" When you need help, they’re the ones to answer the phone. While you may not see them, the men and women in our Communications Center are literal first responders and often life savers. As we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we invite you to meet some of our dispatchers and call takers in our latest episode of "Inside JSO". We can’t thank them enough for working around the clock to answer emergency and non-emergency calls, get help on the way, and make sure chaotic situations remain calm.
