Canada geese may look harmless, but when they overtake ponds, they can create serious water quality issues, from excessive waste buildup and algae growth to shoreline erosion and stressed fish populations. Our latest blog explores effective, long-term strategies to help property owners and HOAs manage geese populations while protecting pond health, water clarity, and aquatic ecosystems. About us
Jones Lake Management has a history of excellence in fish production and lake management. Robert Lee Jones began managing the Gatliff Fish Hatchery (Williamsburg, KY) more than seventy years ago. In 1949, he set a world record for producing the most fingerling largemouth bass in a one-acre pond. His son, Albert Russell Jones, continued the tradition by serving as a fishery biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources. He was instrumental in introducing striped bass into Lake Cumberland, rainbow trout into Laurel Lake, and walleye into the Cumberland River above Cumberland Falls. His efforts have made Lake Cumberland one of the most productive freshwater lakes for striped bass in the world. Laurel Lake is one of the best rainbow trout lakes south of the Mason-Dixon line, and the upper Cumberland River is an excellent walleye fishery. His work has led to better fishing for thousands of anglers and advancements in the science of fish production and lake management. Today, the third generation continues to improve the business. Our successful lake management and fish production practices have catapulted us into being one of the fastest growing lake management companies in the United States. We focus on comprehensive pond and lake management to help our clients achieve their goals.

Over time, sediment buildup can quietly reduce the health, depth, and functionality of ponds and lakes. Left unmanaged, excess sediment can lead to poor water quality, increased algae growth, and loss of aquatic habitat. Both proactive lake management and dredging play important roles in maintaining water quality, preserving depth, and supporting the long-term health and functionality of ponds and lakes. The earlier sediment issues are addressed, the easier it is to protect the longevity and beauty of your waterbody. Our Virginia Beach team attended the Central Virginia Community Associations Institute Tradeshow on April 16th! Events like this are a valuable opportunity for our team to connect with community members, build relationships, and have meaningful conversations about lake management solutions. We’re always excited to meet associations and communities that are ready to enhance and protect their water resources. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and supporting communities across Virginia!

Algae are a natural part of every pond and play an important role by producing oxygen and supporting the aquatic food chain. But when excess nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen build up, algae can quickly get out of control, turning clear water into a murky green mess. The key to managing algae effectively? Knowing what type you’re dealing with. Understanding the different kinds of algae helps you make smarter choices to protect your pond’s appearance, water quality, and overall ecosystem health. Take a look at our latest blog to help identify what's growing in your pond! https://hubs.ly/Q04cWgNx0 #PondCare #WaterQuality #AlgaeControl #LakeManagement #HealthyPond #EcosystemHealth #AquaticLife #CleanWater #PondTips #JonesLakeManagement #LakeManagement https://hubs.ly/Q04cWgNx0

As spring warms your pond, fish like bass and bluegill become more active, moving into shallow water to feed and spawn. It’s also peak spawning season, making quality habitat like gravel beds, vegetation, and cover critical. Regular spring maintenance ensures a healthy, balanced pond all season long.
