We had the opportunity to visit University City High School last week to learn more about investments we've made with City Connects and the Show-Me School-Based Health Alliance of Missouri to partner with the School District of University City. We were excited to see the progress on both initiatives firsthand, and grateful to our partners for the important work being done.
University City High School proudly hosted the James S. McDonnell Foundation Board on Wednesday, August 26th. The Board heard updates on the City Connects Program, which ensures all students are connected with the services they need to thrive. The Board also heard from district leaders about City Connects' impact, and the power of school-based health centers, from a panel of speakers. The visit ended with a tour of Healthy U, a new school-based health center located on the University City High School Campus.

From a young age, Daniel Rose wanted to know how things were made and how they worked. The St. Louis native is now a rising sophomore at the first public engineering program in Eastern Missouri: the University of Missouri-Saint Louis's School of Engineering. To support the launch of the new school, JSMF made an $8 million investment in UMSL to help attract faculty, build a robust pipeline of interested students, and provide scholarships that remove financial barriers and make economic mobility more attainable. Exciting news this morning! St. Louis Anchor Action Network has found a new permanent home at Greater St. Louis, Inc. The coalition's efforts to support the growth of small businesses in the St. Louis region will now be able to reach even further as part of GSL's SupplySTL initiative.
The St. Louis Anchor Action Network has a new home in Greater St. Louis, Inc., thanks to grant support from the James S. McDonnell Foundation. Key STLAAN partners, Edward Jones and University of Missouri-Saint Louis, support the move. “Greater St. Louis, Inc. is honored to serve as the new home for this important work,” said Ron Kitchens, Managing Partner of Greater St. Louis, Inc. “SupplySTL was built to connect small businesses to real opportunity. Integrating STLAAN’s anchor network gives us the scale and the relationships to expand our efforts to drive inclusive growth across the entire region.” This move benefits STLAAN’s member institutions — major employers, health systems, universities, and civic organizations — giving them new opportunities to participate in SupplySTL’s partner network, access procurement support, and engage in a new Impact Investing Working Group. One of our newest grantees is St. Louis Community College. The institution's Workforce Learning Connection technology infrastructure project will design and deploy a centralized Customer Relationship Management platform to serve as the operational backbone for a regional workforce learning ecosystem connecting employers, school districts, students, and families. This platform will support coordination of career exploration activities, dual credit and dual enrollment participation, and work-based learning opportunities while providing tailored access points for employers, students, and K-12 staff.
