Huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time last Saturday to make our World Cup Cleanup a success! Together, they cleared a half-acre of honeysuckle and picked up 135 lbs. of trash... in just 3 hours 🤯 This event was hosted in partnership with Heartland Conservation Alliance who guided and educated volunteers about their work protecting and restoring the Blue River watershed and its urban greenspaces.

Today marks one year of Mario Vasquez serving as our City Manager. Mario began his career with the City in 1997 as an entry-level city planner and has since served in several leadership roles, including Project Manager, Assistant City Manager, and Director of City Planning and Development. Mario shared that over the past year, one of the most surprising and meaningful parts of this role has been witnessing the level of commitment and dedication Kansas City employees have to public service. As he put it, Kansas City is filled with some of the smartest people and best minds in their disciplines, and seeing that firsthand has been both humbling and reassuring. Thank you Mario, for your continued commitment to building a more equitable, responsive, and resilient city for all.

For the past 5 years, our Housing and Community Development Department has been shaping what housing support looks like citywide This post highlights just some of the work happening across the department and the people behind it. Each slide features a different program with reflections from the staff members who know the work best. While we celebrate, we’re also looking to the future: continuing to invest in neighborhoods, expand housing opportunities, and build a city where more residents can stay housed, supported, and connected to community.
