May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month. Have you explored our updated Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Report, with data on hepatitis A, B, C, and D through 2024? These data continue to demonstrate the link between risk factors, such as injection drug use and unstable housing, and viral hepatitis. They also highlight the need for greater attention to and support for people disproportionately impacted by viral hepatitis – particularly Black, non-Hispanic and Hispanic community members. Committed to preventing disease and promoting wellness and health equity for all
About us
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health prevents illness, injury, and premature death, assures access to high quality public health and health care services, and promotes wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. We envision a Commonwealth in which all people enjoy optimal health. Massachusetts ranks among the healthiest of states according to comparative analyses, but we face numerous challenges, including chronic and infectious disease, substance abuse, violence, preventable hospitalizations, and health disparities. We provide programs to address specific diseases and conditions and offer services to address the needs of vulnerable populations. We also develop, implement, promote, and enforce policies to assure that the conditions under which people live are most conducive to health and enable people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. At the heart of public health is the belief that every infant deserves a healthy start. This World Human Milk Donation Day, DPH’s Bureau of Family Health and Nutrition is celebrating Mothers' Milk Bank Northeast, which recently received a citation from Governor Maura Healey recognizing their work. Through the power and generosity of milk donors, supporters, and partners, the milk bank expands access to safe donor human milk — bridging the gap for families in need and offering vital nourishment for babies. Thank you to their team for leadership and partnership in our shared mission to improve maternal and infant health in Massachusetts.
