  • On April 30, our New York office hosted over 150 clients and industry leaders for Mayer Brown’s 2026 AI Summit, a focused look at how organizations are navigating the legal, regulatory, and commercial realities of AI at scale. The conversation made clear that AI has moved from experimentation to enterprise priority. Here’s what stood out from the discussion: 🔹 AI governance is now operational, not theoretical. Organizations are moving beyond frameworks into execution, building cross-functional governance teams, mapping use cases to risk, and embedding policies into day-to-day workflows. Governance is becoming a living system, not a static document. 🔹Intellectual property remains unsettled and high stakes. Questions around ownership, fair use, and training data are still evolving in real time. Recent rulings largely finding fair use in certain training sets are encouraging for AI companies, but several other questions remain undecided. 🔹ROI in AI is broader than cost savings. Leading organizations are redefining ROI to include adoption, employee enablement, platform stability, and governance maturity. The biggest barrier isn’t the technology; it’s moving people up the “AI fluency curve.” 🔹AI contracts demand new frameworks beyond traditional software deals—covering unique IP, performance, and liability questions that legacy templates weren't built for. And as AI shifts from assistive tools to autonomous agents, the biggest contracting challenge moves from managing bad outputs to allocating responsibility for independent actions. 🔹Broader AI adoption brings new security threats. From shadow AI to AI-powered cyberattacks and autonomous agents, companies face diverse, unpredictable, and substantial risks. Companies should build on strong foundations as they recalibrate their defenses and prepare to respond to incidents at “machine speed.” Continue the conversation and explore our AI Resource Center for legal regulatory and operational insights: https://lnkd.in/gMn-BdbS #ArtificialIntelligence

  • Mayer Brown in Singapore advised on a landmark USD750 million sustainability-linked syndicated loan facility for PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, supporting its continued focus on responsible mining. The firm represented United Overseas Bank Limited as sole coordinator, alongside DBS Bank, Mizuho Bank, PT Bank Mizuho Indonesia and United Overseas Bank as mandated lead arrangers, underwriters and bookrunners. This transaction marks PT Vale Indonesia's debut in the international syndicated loan market and represents a significant milestone in strengthening the company's responsible mining practices. The facility was oversubscribed by 1.7 times, with participation from 14 international banks — a clear demonstration of robust market confidence in the company's business fundamentals and sustainability-oriented strategy. This transaction is testament to our track record in advising on complex financings in Indonesia and across the mining and natural resources sector, underscoring our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that support our clients' long-term strategic and environmental goals. Our Banking & Finance team was led by partner Janelene Chen with support from associates Gabriel Lim and Henderik Tan. • Last week, we welcomed clients and industry leaders to Mayer Brown’s New York Antitrust Symposium for a timely discussion on the direction of global antitrust enforcement. Featuring a keynote from former FTC Chair Jon Leibowitz, the program explored evolving DOJ and FTC priorities, heightened cross border scrutiny, and what companies should anticipate heading further into 2026 and beyond. Panels examined antitrust risk across digital markets, data driven collaboration, regional enforcement trends in Asia, remedies, and the growing role of private litigation and funding. Here’s a snapshot of the key insights shared by our lawyers and guest speakers: 🔸𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱. Rapidly evolving technology is reshaping competitive dynamics and creating novel antitrust risks—particularly with the emergence of algorithmic pricing—demanding that legal teams stay ahead of market developments across every region. 🔸 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘀. Catalyzed by cross-border cartel investigations, agency remedy demands, and public enforcement priorities, regulators are pursuing antitrust violations with increasing rigor and sophistication across every dimension. 🔸𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Aggressive public enforcement, expanding private litigation fueled by third-party funding, evolving agency authority, emerging state AG influence, and more demanding remedy requirements collectively raise the stakes for companies that fail to manage antitrust risk effectively. Thank you to our speakers and attendees for an engaging and insightful program. #Antitrust #DigitalMarkets

  • Competition authorities are sharpening their enforcement tools as markets evolve and ways of working adapt to technological developments. Authorities around the world are increasingly prepared to seize electronic evidence, including that stored on cloud-based systems or stored abroad. At the same time, several authorities are expanding their efforts to obtain information about potential violations of competition law to uncover possible infringements such as via AI tools, bolstered leniency regimes and modernised whistle blower programmes. These actions can have global consequences, as enforcement in one jurisdiction may trigger follow on private damages claims elsewhere. Our lawyers examine recent developments across the EU, UK, US, and Asia, and outlines key considerations for businesses navigating this increasingly complex enforcement landscape.
