We showed up for the TPS community and we’re not backing down. Watch Executive Director Omar Farah’s remarks after the Mullin v. Dahlia Doe and Trump v. Miot hearings, where the Supreme Court is considering whether TPS terminations can happen without judicial oversight. The stakes are high, this will impact hundreds of thousands of people from Syria and Haiti, and over 1.3 million TPS holders overall. Together we’re fighting to #ProtectTPS.

We litigate, educate, and advocate to uphold our country’s promise of equal treatment under the law for all Americans — and we get results. We are a big tent organization that recognizes the rich and full diversity of the American Muslim community in race, sex, place of birth, ability, income, education, gender identity, sexual orientation, sect of worship and level of religiosity. We ensure that American Muslims have a seat at the table with expert representation so that all Americans may live free from hate and discrimination.

Since inauguration, this Administration has weaponized immigration policies to relentlessly target immigrants of color. One highlight of our response has been our successful litigation to defend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from particularly unstable and unsafe parts of the world. Tomorrow, the Supreme Court will hear arguments related to the Administration’s efforts to strip TPS from vulnerable refugees, including in the case we brought, alongside our partners at the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) and Van Der Hout LLP, on behalf of Syrian nationals. On April 29, the Supreme Court will hear arguments deciding the futures of TPS for Haiti, Syria, and possibly all 17 TPS countries, as the Trump administration is asking to make TPS decision-making unreviewable by the court system. This could put more than 1.3 million people at risk of deportation back to unsafe conditions. But we’re fighting back! Join us and #ProtectTPS

Meet Leqaa Kordia: Palestinian Protester Freed After a Year in ”ICE Dungeon” Kordia was born in the occupied West Bank and lives in New Jersey. She was arrested in 2024 during the Gaza solidarity protests at Columbia University. The charges against her were dropped the next day, but she was detained in March 2025 by ICE during a routine immigration check-in. Yesterday, Mayor Andre Sayegh held a press conference to welcome Leqaa back to her hometown of Paterson, New Jersey after facing year-long confinement by ICE in Alvarado, Texas for protesting the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Leqaa spoke out about the injustices she experienced in ICE custody at the press conference and reminded us that our fight for collective liberation is not yet over. Muslim Advocates and co-counsel rejoiced with Leqaa as she reunited with her family and Paterson community members. It’s been our absolute honor to fight for Leqaa’s freedom and dignity this past year with CLEAR, Texas Civil Rights Project, Waters Kraus Paul & Siegel, and the Boston University Law School’s Immigration Clinic and in collaboration with community organizers and elected officials—pushing back against the government’s gamesmanship and upholding the rule of law. Leqaa’s long overdue release makes it undeniably clear that the government cannot silence the unwavering movement for Palestinian liberation.

Check out this MS NOW opinion piece written by our very own Sumayyah Waheed who argues that efforts by the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian, Somali, and Syrian immigrants aren’t just policy changes, but are discriminatory decisions that could put thousands at risk. TPS exists to protect people fleeing war, disaster, and instability, and conditions in these countries remain dangerous. Also, there are ongoing legal challenges and court rulings that have blocked or delayed the terminations, raising broader questions about immigration policy, humanitarian responsibility, and potential racial bias. The Islamic month of Ramadan is upon us, meaning many Muslims around the country—and the world—are fasting from dawn to sunset or dusk, while going about their daily lives. In order to practice this pillar of faith, some Muslims may need religious accommodations. Whether on the job, at school, or while incarcerated, the right to practice your religious beliefs is legally protected and may require what’s called a “religious accommodation” by schools, workplaces, and carceral facilities. An “accommodation” is an agreement for an institution to do things differently from how it normally does, in order to serve a legally protected interest. Some examples of needed accommodations during Ramadan: students at school may need prayer breaks, adjusted testing schedules, or time off for Eid w/out penalty; and incarcerated people may need adjusted food & meds schedules, modified work schedules, and support getting religious texts. While seeking workplace accommodations can be more nuanced, fasting Muslims can try to seek schedule changes or reassignment of certain job responsibilities. You can read more about seeking an accommodation this #Ramadan, laws governing your specific request, and what to do if denied, in our Know Your Rights pamphlet, which includes template letters you can adapt to your needs.
