Since taking office, the Trump administration has given polluters free reign by rolling back regulations, cutting enforcement programs, and exempting coal-fired power plants from critical clean air safeguards. Reducing emissions from these plants is vital for cleaner skies that benefit public health and local economies. Read more about how NRDC will keep fighting clean air, clean rain, and healthy lungs.

The Earth's Best Defense
About us
NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Worth Magazine has named NRDC one of America's 100 best charities, and the Wise Giving Alliance of the Better Business Bureau reports that NRDC meets its highest standards for accountability and use of donor funds. NRDC was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement. NRDC lawyers helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws. Today, our staff of more than 300 lawyers, scientists and policy experts -- a MacArthur "genius" award-winner among them -- work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beijing. The New York Times calls us "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups." The National Journal says we're "A credible and forceful advocate for stringent environmental protection." With the support of our members and online activists, NRDC works to solve the most pressing environmental issues we face today: curbing global warming, getting toxic chemicals out of the environment, moving America beyond oil, reviving our oceans, saving wildlife and wild places, and helping China go green.

The Trump administration just repealed the Public Lands Rule, ditching tools designed to protect and restore our public lands. This “means less protection for the clean drinking water, less protection for endangered wildlife that depend on healthy habitat, and less accountability when corporations leave these landscapes damaged and degraded,” says NRDC’s Director of Land Conservation Bobby McEnaney. It’s the latest move in a broader push from the administration to open our public lands to exploitative industries at the expense of communities and the environment.

As extreme weather intensifies due to climate change, state and local governments must implement tested adaptation strategies to further protect their communities. NRDC’s newest report highlights practical ways to reduce future losses and harm, protect public health and safety and strengthen recovery efforts.

Our public lands are home to esteemed wildlife refuges and national forests, parks, and monuments. They are also an important line of defense against climate change. After the Trump administration weakened pollution limits on coal-fired power plants, the facilities are now releasing more toxic mercury pollution as power demand rises. NRDC’s director of policy analysis Amanda Levin says the rise in mercury “adds to the growing evidence that, as the administration has made a significant effort to bring back coal, it is making us sicker”. https://lnkd.in/euncR_H2

President Trump’s fossil-fuel energy agenda is leaving Americans more vulnerable to global price shocks as the conflict in Iran pushes oil and gas costs higher—with prices at the pump in the U.S. topping $4 per gallon. By doubling down on fossil fuels while undermining clean energy, his administration is deepening U.S. dependence on these unstable markets instead of building a more affordable, secure clean energy future.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) reposted this
How energizing it is to see NRDC standing together! We recreated the NRDC “shield” at our global all staff retreat just outside Washington, DC, a few weeks ago. We are proud to protect people, climate, and nature every day. Even as the Trump administration attacks our health, our environment, and our democracy, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is imagining a better world. And we are taking action together to build that brighter future. We are leveraging the courts to protect our communities. We are advocating for policies to deploy affordable clean energy, ensure clean air and water, and safeguard nature. We are building exciting new coalitions and communicating how environmental progress can improve people’s lives in tangible ways. We are working at local, state, and national levels, and in key countries around the world. Together, we are building a more inclusive, productive, and sustainable future for all.
