Today, Newark Public Schools held a meeting of its high school partners that demonstrated the power of strategic collaboration in transforming educational outcomes and workforce opportunities for students. The meeting brought together leaders from higher education, healthcare, technology, entertainment, workforce development, nonprofit organizations, and industry to deepen partnerships aligned with the high school redesign outlined in the district’s historic 10-year strategic plan. Topics this morning’s discussion included: ·     Students announcing their commitments to attend prestigious universities, including Brown, Princeton, Duke, and Drew universities. ·     Expanded partnerships in AI, healthcare, entertainment, aviation, and public safety ·     Internship and workforce pathways connected to industry leaders and global organizations ·     Continued development of innovative programs like New Media High School and the police and fire career pathways. ·     Student voices sharing how mentorship, internships, and career-focused learning are changing lives Thank you to all of our university, corporate, nonprofit, and community partners for your continued investment in Newark’s students and future. #KeepOnMoving

Newark Public Schools proudly celebrated 98 talented student performers in grades 6–12 representing 11 theatre programs from across the district. Inspired by this year’s theme, Arts In Action: JOY, students showcased the creativity, courage, discipline, and collaboration that make the performing arts such a powerful part of education. From powerful storytelling to unforgettable performances, our young thespians demonstrated how theatre helps students discover their voices, build confidence, and connect with others through empathy and expression. Newark Public Schools, the City of Newark, and Rutgers University–Newark have announced a comprehensive public safety career pathway designed to prepare high school students for careers in the Newark Police and Fire Divisions. The announcement was made at a news conference at City Hall with Superintendent León, Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, and Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice Dean Nancy La Vigne. The police and fire pathway initiative builds on the district’s existing public safety programming by creating a structured curriculum to serve as a pipeline that connects high school learning to college opportunities and, ultimately, careers in the Police and Fire Divisions in the City of Newark. Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for University High School senior Jade Peralta. Jade was surprised during a video call with life-changing news — she earned a FULL scholarship to Bentley University as a First Generation President Scholar! From a self-described shy freshman to president of her school’s award-winning Speech & Debate Team, Jade’s journey is a powerful example of what hard work, confidence, and determination can achieve.
