  • At yesterday's Board Meeting, NJDOT Commissioner Priya Jain, President & CEO Kris Kolluri, NJ TRANSIT Board Members, and guests honored two extraordinary bus operators for their heroic actions and commitment to customer safety. On April 22, Bus Operator Stephanie Carson remained calm during a dangerous incident aboard the No. 66 bus route in Union involving an individual reportedly threatening a customer with a knife. Stephanie quickly notified NJ TRANSIT Police, maintained control of the bus, and prioritized the safety of everyone onboard. NJTPD responded swiftly, recovered the weapon, and made an arrest. On April 15 in Paterson, Bus Operator Wildanis Sena Mendez took immediate action when a passenger experienced a medical emergency and was unable to breathe. After safely pulling over the bus, Wildanis performed the Heimlich maneuver while contacting emergency services, helping save the passenger’s life. We proudly recognize Stephanie Carson and Wildanis Sena Mendez for going above and beyond in service to our customers and communities.
