About us
The New Jersey Judiciary consists of the Supreme Court; the Superior Court, which includes the Appellate Division and the trial courts in the 15 vicinages; the Tax Court and the municipal courts. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the courts. The New Jersey Judiciary has opened this page to public comment to foster respectful, civil, and courteous discussion related to the posted topics. This page is intended to be a welcoming environment in which users of all ages and backgrounds may comfortably and safely engage in topical discussion regarding the Judiciary’s posts. In furtherance of those objectives, the following guidelines apply. All comments and replies must: • be topical in relation to the Judiciary’s initial post. • refrain from using abusive or hateful language. • refrain from using profanity, threats, obscenity, or calls for violence or illegality. • not include commercial advertising. • not include hyperlinks, as they may conceal links containing malware. • not disseminate confidential information or invade the privacy of third parties. Duplicate comments and replies in response to the same Judiciary post may be deleted. A violation of these guidelines will result in deletion of the offending comment. Copies of deleted comments and replies will be archived. A comment or reply that includes a threat of violence or a security threat against a Judiciary official or facility will result in a referral to the appropriate authorities and the offending party may be banned from making comments in the future. Four new judges were sworn in to the Essex Vicinage this week by Assignment Judge Sheila A. Venable, with family, friends and colleagues in attendance at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Building in Newark. Superior Court Judges Kevin J. O’Connor and Kevin Reich were sworn in on Wednesday while Superior Court Judges John F. Chiaia and Francis Kapusinski took their oaths yesterday. Judges O’Connor and Chiaia have been assigned to the civil division and Judges Reich and Kapusinski have been assigned to the family division.

Morris/Sussex Vicinage Assignment Judge Stuart A. Minkowitz celebrated the portrait dedication for retired Superior Court Judge David H. Ironson on Tuesday, alongside Judge Ironson’s family, friends and colleagues. Judge Ironson retired from the bench in 2025 after 17 years of service. His portrait will be displayed in his former courtroom at the Administration and Records Building in Morristown.

Newly confirmed Ocean Vicinage Superior Judge Shantika Dorsey was sworn in yesterday by Superior Court Judge Wendel Daniels, who is on recall, in Toms River. Judge Dorsey, who previously served as Judge Daniels’ law clerk, was praised by Judge Daniels for her legal aptitude and character. Judge Daniels called the ceremony a historic event for the vicinage, marking the first time its first African American judge swore in its first female African American judge. Judge Dorsey was welcomed by close family and friends, Assignment Judge Francis Hodgson, and other members of the bench.

The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage held its third annual Employee and Leader of the Year Award ceremony on Thursday. From staff and front-line supervisors’ nominations, Tracy Bannister was named Employee of the Year, and Rebecca Super received Leader of the Year honors. All nominees, joined by their management staff, attended a luncheon as part of the ceremony.
