NYC Department of Social Services reposted this
“No one will be denied. All hospitals, all DHS drop-in centers, and all DHS shelters have a fully open door policy. This means that we have enough shelter beds available for every single New Yorker in need.” DSS Commissioner Molly Wasow Park and other senior city officials joined Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani today to discuss storm preparations. Call 311 if you see someone in need of shelter.

DSS Commissioner Molly Wasow Park provides an update on the HOPE 2026 survey, the city’s annual point-in-time estimate of New Yorkers experiencing unsheltered homelessness. NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) is coordinating with thousands of volunteers and city partners to canvass streets, parks, and subways across the five boroughs on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This critical data helps the City better direct resources and support services to our most vulnerable neighbors. Participants must be 18+ or 16+ with a guardian’s consent.
