When aging infrastructure limits performance, retrofitting can be the key to unlocking efficiency and capacity. The Fox Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant in Illinois faced significant challenges with its aerated grit basin, which was underperforming and nearing the end of its useful life. The plant needed a solution that would fit within its existing footprint while dramatically improving grit removal efficiency. By implementing a HeadCell® stacked tray grit removal system along with SlurryCup™ and Grit Snail® washing and dewatering technology, Fox Lake achieved an overall system efficiency of 88%, with individual components performing at over 93%. This retrofit not only improved grit removal but also enhanced plant reliability and protected downstream processes.
