  • The Orlando Science Center Preschool is full of artists! We were proud to showcase their creativity in our recent Preschool Art Show. 73 preschool students engaged in creative outcomes that explored the significance of masterpieces in art history. Through these projects, the students gained valuable insight into outstanding works of art while sparking their own creativity to create a diverse array of artwork. It’s through events like the annual Preschool Art Show that OSC can show its dedication to excellence in early childhood art education and all things related to STEM. Names and faces of the preschool students have been blurred for privacy.

  • In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander month, Orlando Science Center would like to highlight Paromita Mitra, Principal Investigator and Human Interface Engineer at NASA Johnson Space Center! Mitra is an influential scientist who has made STEM more accessible for students across the country through her research that helped develop the NASA Spacesuit User Interface Technologies for Students. NASA SUITS is a design challenge for college students to help design user interface solutions for future spaceflight needs. Mitra is part of the Artemis generation and contributed first-hand to the historic mission by helping create the very spacesuit that the astronauts wore on Artemis II. Paromita Mitra is just one of the many people shaping the STEM industry and making it more inclusive and accessible.

  • Everyone say, “Happy 21st Bird-thday, Captain!” If you’ve visited our Life exhibit, chances are you might’ve met Captain, our blue and yellow Macaw. But Captain is no ordinary resident of Orlando Science Center; he’s an ambassador for conservation and helps guests understand the impact of Macaws on their native ecosystems in Central and South America. Macaws play a critical role in conservation and forest regeneration. They’re gardeners of the forest as they disperse seeds across landscapes, which helps to maintain healthy, strong and diverse ecosystems. When Captain feels up to it, he sometimes makes an appearance in Life. OSC invites you to swing by and you just might have the opportunity to see one of nature’s most impressive species up close!

  • Orlando Science Center is thrilled to announce “Phone it Forward,” a campaign that helps protect all life here on Earth while providing for those in need. Starting May 8th, visitors are encouraged to donate any working or broken electronic devices at OSC to help those in need and keep landfills free of e-waste! Those who donate accepted devices will receive 10% off a new membership. Inside our Life exhibit and Conservation Hallway on Level 1, guests can learn more about the many ways they can contribute to a happier and healthier planet Earth. Start today by donating to Phone it Forward!

  • Big news! Orlando Science Center recently received a Universal Orlando Foundation Celebration of Giving Award! With this generous funding, OSC has launched a new initiative to bring world-class STEM learning directly to middle school students in Osceola County – EAGLE: Empowering Achievement & Growth in Learning through Exploration. This program inspires science learning through hands-on in-school workshops, teacher professional development, and family engagement opportunities. By preparing students with the skills they need for high wage careers, OSC empowers the next generation of innovators! Orlando Science Center is deeply grateful to the Universal Orlando Foundation for investing in students, teachers, and the community.

  • We may not be going to a galaxy far, far away, but the Artemis mission is paving the way for deep space exploration. The Artemis II astronauts broke Apollo 13’s record as they travelled the farthest distance from Earth on their voyage to the lunar far side. But what happens now that they’ve returned? After spending 10 days in space, the four astronauts had to undergo many medical tests to check their vision, balance, muscle strength and coordination. Simulations were also performed that will help inform how much endurance and dexterity astronauts might have once landing on the moon. NASA is already preparing for the next phase as the launch platform heads back to Kennedy Space Center for Artemis III. At Orlando Science Center, guests can spark their wonder for space science in Our Planet, Our Solar System on level 4 or by visiting the observatory. Whether it’s learning more about Earth or our stellar neighbors, everyone of all ages can get involved in this exciting era of space exploration!
