University City High School proudly hosted the James S. McDonnell Foundation Board on Wednesday, August 26th. The Board heard updates on the City Connects Program, which ensures all students are connected with the services they need to thrive. The Board also heard from district leaders about City Connects' impact, and the power of school-based health centers, from a panel of speakers. The visit ended with a tour of Healthy U, a new school-based health center located on the University City High School Campus.

As part of ESG Week, employees from ICL Headquarters and the Webster Groves Technical Center partnered with Seed St. Louis to support the community garden at Pershing Elementary School in University City. Originally scheduled for June and postponed due to extreme heat, the volunteer event took place on July 23, when participants spent a beautiful summer morning cleaning garden beds, pulling weeds, and preparing the space for students returning this fall. The garden serves as an outdoor classroom for the district's new Sustainability curriculum, helping students learn about gardening, food systems, and environmental stewardship through hands-on experiences. Since 1984, Seed St. Louis has connected people to the land, their food, and each other, supporting more than 250 community and school gardens across the St. Louis region. We are proud to partner with organizations that create lasting impact in our communities. A highlight of the morning was enjoying some of the garden's harvest—including fresh tomatoes, garlic, and herbs—while learning more about the difference these spaces make for students and neighborhoods. Thank you to all the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and truly got their hands in the dirt for good. Today SDUC kicked off the 26-27 SY with an all staff pep rally! This year's theme is Equity Looks Like Love, and It Begins with Belonging. Special thanks to the Board of Education, City Councilman Bwayne Smotherson, City Manger Brooke Sharp, SSD Superintendent Mike Maclin, SSD Chief Partner District Officer Dr. Chaketa Moore, SSD Board Member Joanne Soudah, Police Chief Larry Hampton, student Board Member Aracely Figueroa-Sibaja, and OneUCity's Rebecca Rodriguez-Anderson for their special welcome messages. Thank you to the student performers, AFJROTC, the University City High School Marching Band, Golden Girls, and Cheerleaders. The district also thanks graduate Cadence Sneed and Junior Elliott Sneed, for their beautiful performance of Lift Every Voice and Sing. The students' lion pride was evident in their performances. Teachers got a chance to enjoy a barbeque lunch in between learning sessions, and even managed to sneak in a few line dances before heading off to their next meeting.
