Safety is never just another box to check- it’s a shared responsibility and a foundational commitment at Schuff Steel. Recently, our ironworker team paused work on one of our mega projects for a safety stand down, creating space for meaningful learning, open conversation, and connection. These moments allow us to reinforce best practices, share experiences, and recommit to looking out for each other- on and off the jobsite. The day also gave our crews the chance to come together as a community and enjoy a catered lunch at a local venue, reinforcing that safety culture is strongest when relationships are too. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this stand down a valuable and engaging experience. 🏅 Meet Brandon Weiss, our Chief Estimator for Schuff Steel’s Pacific Northwest Division, celebrating 21 years in the steel industry- all with Schuff. 🏅 Brandon leads our estimating team in Portland, OR and Bellevue, WA, overseeing all project pricing for the region, from new bids and conceptual budgets to change orders on active jobs. He has also played a key role in developing Schuff’s estimating procedures and advancing our Next Generation Estimating System. 💠 What he enjoys most: Brandon loves being involved early in schematic design, transforming a project that exists only conceptually into a fully priced and buildable plan. Seeing that vision become a complete steel structure is what fuels his passion for the work. 💠 Career highlights: From navigating fast-paced, high-demand schedules to contributing to the two-year effort behind The Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Brandon takes pride in meeting challenges head-on and delivering results through teamwork and precision. 💠 What motivates him: “Schuff builds some of the most complicated steel projects in the United States. Nothing is more motivating than working on one-of-a-kind projects where there is no playbook.” 💠 His advice for those starting out: Many don’t realize the scale of office professionals behind every successful job—from Estimating to Project Management. Brandon encourages newcomers to explore the wide range of opportunities within the steel and construction industries: “Schuff is always looking for great people!” 💠 Outside of work: Originally from Arizona, Brandon moved to Seattle with his wife in 2019 and enjoys hiking, traveling, and Pacific Northwest craft beer. A true baseball fan, he’s on a mission to visit all 30 MLB ballparks— visiting Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, New York, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia in 2025. #WeAreBuilders #Teamwork #Excellence #EmployeeSpotlight #StructuralSteel

Schuff Steel is fabricating and erecting 3,500 tons of structural steel for the College of the Desert's new Palm Springs Campus. Check out these glimpses of the AESS signature tree column support steel being prepared to be shipped to site!
The architectural tree columns for the College of the Desert Palm Springs Campus are making progress! Project structural steel fabricator, Schuff Steel, shared an in-progress glimpse of the assembly of hollow structural shapes and the CAST CONNEX supplied custom tree nodes and Diablo Bolted Splices. Architectural Tapers + Universal Pin Connectors will eventually complete the architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) signature tree structures designed by WRNS Studio and Thornton Tomasetti and featured throughout the new campus. Located in a region of high seismicity, and subject to review by DSA, this unique project is a great example of collaboration between CAST CONNEX and the project team.
