We're proud to share that a milestone was made right here at Seattle Convention Center. Amazon Accelerate 2025, held at SCC last September, achieved Platinum Level Certification under the Events Industry Council's Sustainable Event Standards — advancing from Silver just one year prior. The results from the event speak for themselves: an 88.5% waste diversion rate, 71,435 pounds of carpet, AstroTurf, and printed signage converted into alternative fuel, and surplus food and swag donated locally. This impressive leap reflects what's possible when a committed event organizer and a sustainability-focused venue work toward the same goal. Happy National Skilled Trades Day! Today we're celebrating one of our own — Zach Lau, Electrician Foreman at Seattle Convention Center, who has kept the lights on (literally) for nearly 15 years. In Zach's words: "Skilled trades are meaningful careers that allow people to learn, stay active, grow, and make a difference. After almost 15 years at the Seattle Convention Center, I see the value of my work every day in the positive experiences I help create for visitors." At SCC, we believe that client surplus items shouldn't go to waste — they should go where they're needed most. We recently donated chairs, tables, 400 tote bags, and 80 umbrellas to local nonprofits doing meaningful work in our community. Giving these items a second life feels good.
