  • Throughout May, Sentara Leigh Hospital and Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital are lighting up green for Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚 The green light symbolizes our commitment to reducing the stigma around mental health, encourage open conversations about mental wellness, and supporting equitable access to care. Mental health is health. When we normalize seeking support and treat mental health with the same urgency as physical health, we create healthier communities. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #BreakTheStigma

  • Hospital Week is an opportunity to recognize the people who make compassionate, high-quality care possible every day. Throughout the week, teams across our hospitals came together for activities including picnics, employee awards, and more, all in celebration of the people behind the care. While every hospital celebrated in its own way, the message remained the same: gratitude for the dedication, teamwork, and compassion our team members bring to the communities we serve. Thank you to every Sentara team member for all that you do. Happy Hospital Week!

  • It takes a coordinated team to keep a hospital running. Every shift, every role, and every handoff contributes to safe, high-quality patient care. 🤝 From the moments patients see to the countless interactions happening behind the scenes, hospitals rely on a connected network of healthcare professionals and support teams. What you see here is just a glimpse of the people who keep it all running. This National Hospital Week, we’re proud to recognize our teams for the care, coordination, and commitment they bring every day. Thank you for the impact you make across our hospitals and communities. 💙 Video Description: Short, sequential clips of hospital staff from a variety of departments within a healthcare system, including hallways, clinical units, an emergency department, operating room corridor, NICU, laboratory, warehouse, office spaces, and a lobby. Across the video, clips alternate between two actions: staff members either perform a coordinated leg-crossing pose or a synchronized high-five. Each segment includes on-screen text identifying the department or role being featured. The roles are shown in this order: Mother Baby, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Department Tech, Hospitalists and Nurse Practitioner, NICU, Surgical Staff, Post Op, Lab, Patient Advocates, Facilities, Supply Chain, Patient Care Technician, Telemetry, and Case Management.

  • Laura Melgoza never saw it coming. But when a driver ran a red light and T-boned her SUV, she was left with a concussion that quickly turned into intense headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Even simple daily tasks became difficult. Just three days later, she was referred to the Sentara Concussion Clinic and received a targeted therapy focused on her specific symptoms, from balance exercises to vision-based treatments that help the brain and body work together again. It's estimated that 1 in 4 Americans suffer a concussion during their lives, or up to 3.6 million annually. For the Sentara therapy team, the goal is helping patients overcome the symptoms of concussion quickly and safely so they can get back to their lives.

  • In the ICU, no two days are the same. For Kara Kelton, PA, that means critical decisions, strong collaboration, and continuous learning. After 15 years in practice, Kara recently transitioned into Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, supported by Sentara’s Advanced Practice Provider onboarding experience and Power of Five professional development program. These programs are designed to do more than orient new hires. They help providers build confidence in new roles, strengthen clinical expertise, and foster meaningful collaboration across care teams. The result is higher engagement, stronger support systems, and long-term career growth.

  • Celebrating more than 10,000 Sentara nurses who help improve health every day. 🩺 From critical care to primary care, from operating rooms to nursing education, and everywhere in between — nurses play a critical role throughout healthcare. Happy National Nurses Week to every nurse across our health system. Thank you for the dedication, compassion, and expertise you bring to our patients and communities each and every day! #NationalNursesWeek #ThePowerofNursing #SentaraProud
