Pakistan's fuel oil exports surged 9.1% year over year in December amid subdued domestic demand for the residual fuel grade as utilities increasingly opt for cheaper alternatives such as coal, regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) or solar power. The South Asian country, which has transformed from being a net importer to a regular exporter of fuel oil in recent years, shipped 137,500 metric ton of fuel oil in December, compared with 126,055 mt in the corresponding month a year earlier, according to data from Oil Companies Advisory Council. Global rating performance turned negative in the fourth quarter of 2025, led by the consumer products, media & entertainment, and chemicals, packaging, and environmental services sectors, which accounted for close to 40% of downgrades (while the financial institutions sector lead upgrades). Despite that negative rating bias, fourth-quarter net bias trends improved across all regions, with Asia-Pacific posting the largest improvement on the previous quarter (up 2.4 percentage points). At least three soybean cargoes have been discharged at #Thailand's Koh Sichang port but are unable to clear customs, as uncertainty over import tariff rates and quota allocations continues to paralyze trade, multiple traders and a Thai feed miller told Platts, part of S&P Global Energy. Silver has staged a scintillating rally, climbing to near record highs as #investors see precious metals as safer assets amid persistent economic and geopolitical uncertainty. #Silver prices have risen sharply over the past year alongside gold, buoyed by expectations of easier monetary policy and a weaker dollar. But silver’s story runs deeper than macro hedging. Industrial demand, particularly from solar panels, power electronics and electrification, continues to accelerate, exacerbating a structural supply deficit and adding fuel to the price momentum. Global economic uncertainty is expected to remain a key theme for 2026, shaped by geopolitics, trade tensions and rapid advances in artificial intelligence. In a recent CNBC Africa interview from #WEF26 in Davos, Paul Gruenwald, Global Chief Economist at S&P Global Ratings, discussed how tariff risks and policy uncertainty may continue to influence confidence and investment decisions. He also noted areas of relative resilience, including ongoing investment in AI and data centers and financial conditions that have been comparatively supportive. The conversation highlights the importance of monitoring both near-term risks and longer-term structural drivers as the outlook evolves. The role of Chief Communications Officer is fundamentally evolving. In today’s complex landscape, as companies navigate geopolitical issues, fragmentation, and the pace of change spurred on by AI, CCOs are increasingly acknowledged as trusted strategic advisors, decision-makers and relationship builders—the very essence of what the World Economic Forum is all about. Eleanor Hawkins and I caught up in Davos and discussed this shift, which was palpable on the ground. This year’s gathering featured the most extensive and tailored programming for our profession to date. It underscores the critical responsibility we hold in managing risk, protecting reputations, identifying opportunities and contributing to strong business performance. This also highlights the ongoing importance of our CCO network - collective mindshare- to support each other and continually learn from each other on the cutting edge of trends. Thanks for the coverage, Eleanor & Axios, and to my fellow CCOs - thanks for the camaraderie, insights and candor. #WEF26

The global #oil and #gas industry in 2025 found itself at a pivotal juncture, navigating a landscape shaped by evolving market dynamics, technological advancements, and shifting strategic priorities. Companies continue to focus on efficiency, rapid resource monetization, and targeting high-impact opportunities, reflecting a clear shift from the pursuit of volume to the pursuit of value.
