Today, we celebrate Shawn Banks, Direct Support Professional at Johnston Circle, for reaching his 5-year milestone at Springbrook! Shawn has transitioned into various roles across the organization over the years. His journey has given him a deeper appreciation for the growth those supported by Springbrook experience as they transition from campus to community living. Shawn credits his success to the support and mentorship of his team, especially his Assistant Residential Manager, Reilly, and House Manager, Tori, who have helped him grow both personally and professionally. Their guidance has strengthened his skills and passion for the work he does every day. Shawn shares this advice for new team members: “Come in with an open mind and love what you do. This job can be both rewarding and stressful, but if you stick with it, it is worth it in the end.” We are grateful for Shawn’s dedication, positivity, and commitment to the people he serves. Congratulations, Shawn, and Merry Christmas! #SpringbrookNY #Milestones

This October marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to celebrate the lasting contributions of people with disabilities in the American workforce. This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” also connects to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026, honoring workers with disabilities past, present, and future. Michele Gravel, Director of Employment Services at Springbrook, shares, “Springbrook is honored to provide self-directed and agency-based employment services to over 130 people with disabilities across 9 counties: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tompkins, Tioga, Onondaga, and Oswego. We would not be able to provide high-quality pre-employment and employment services without the dedication and commitment of the businesses and organizations in these counties. More than 80 businesses and organizations provide their unwavering support as proud employers of people with disabilities. To these businesses and organizations- THANK YOU for believing that people with disabilities are valuable employees with the skills and passion to be successful.” Throughout October, we will highlight the experiences, achievements, and impact within Springbrook’s Employment Services. #SpringbrookNY #NDEAM #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth

Today, we celebrate Adrian Beares for reaching her 5-year milestone at Springbrook! Adrian has made a lasting impact through compassion, inclusivity, and dedication to the people she supports as the Assistant Residential Manager at Highland. One of Adrian’s most meaningful experiences was supporting someone through a very difficult time. In doing so, she formed a deep connection with them and their family, a bond that has touched her heart forever Adrian shares this advice for new team members: “Watch what goes on around you and see how staff interact with the people we support. Read their plans and be consistent—it is the key to bonding and making your time here better. Help your coworkers, and they will help you. Guests enjoyed live music from the FLAME band, delicious food catered by Big Al’s BBQ, fun yard games, face painting, temporary tattoos, and plenty of smiles and warm embraces. Two pavilions were filled with family and friends from Community Homes stretching from Oneonta to Binghamton, decorated with handmade welcome signs created just for the occasion. Staff were celebrated with Springbrook mugs and fun swag, while everyone enjoyed games like ladder ball, Jenga, Connect4, and corn hole, along with coloring books for all ages. Gordon Mumbulo, Director of Community Homes, shared: “The turnout for our first annual Community Homes Picnic was great! We’re hoping to build it bigger and better for next year. Thank you to all of those involved in making this day possible!” With a commitment to investing in the success and vibrancy of local communities, the Berkshire Bank Foundation generously provided a grant to support the event.
