During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the role our communities play in supporting student wellbeing. At The Scion Group, our Mind at Ease program was created to provide resources that help students navigate the challenges that can come with college life. As highlighted by our Chief Operating Officer, Kenny Funk, this initiative was built around a simple idea: support should be visible, accessible, and part of the everyday student experience. Through tools, on-site engagement, and ongoing communication, the goal is to make it easier for students to find support when they need it. We also share these resources with parents and guarantors, recognizing the important role they play in supporting student wellbeing throughout the college experience. As Kenny shared, “College students today are facing unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional pressure. More than 60% report overwhelming anxiety, and nearly 1 in 3 say it has impacted their academic performance.” Programs like Mind at Ease are one way we can contribute to a more supportive environment, helping students feel more confident, connected, and equipped throughout their college journey.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the role mental health plays in overall wellbeing. For students, this time of year can bring added pressure with finals, transitions, and planning what comes next. While more students are seeking support, mental health challenges remain a significant part of the college experience. Awareness is an important first step. It creates space for conversations, reduces stigma, and reinforces the importance of building environments that support both mental and physical wellbeing. For students looking for support, there are a range of accessible resources available - from tools like Headspace and Calm to programs like Mind at Ease and initiatives from The Jed Foundation (JED) Foundation. The following highlights a few of the resources available to help support student mental health. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #StudentHousing #MentalHealthAwareness

Great to see this come to life, Al. A fun and well-earned reflection of the partnerships you’re building across our communities.
Partnerships Matter. Over the course of my career - whether in the FBI or now at The Scion Group - I've learned that the best outcomes don't happen in isolation. They happen when the right people come together and work toward a shared goal. That's what makes this one a little unexpected (and honestly, pretty fun). Through a partnership between our CEO and the team at Metric Coffee here in Chicago, we now have a custom coffee blend named "Al's Safety and Security." Not something I saw coming - but I'll take it!! At the end of the day, it all comes back to partnerships. In my role as Director of Security, that means working closely with campus police, local law enforcement, our on-site teams, and our almost 100,000 college student/residents across the country. Whether it's supporting our communities or creating something unique like this blend, strong partnerships make it happen. I appreciate the collaboration - and the coffee. The Scion Group

Recognizing the team behind the Northpoint Crossing Lofts rollout. At The Scion Group, our #MyHouse recognition program highlights team members who make what we call “brand deposits” - actions that go beyond day-to-day responsibilities and create a meaningful impact on residents, teammates, and our communities. They come from individuals who take ownership, recognize what needs to be done, and step in to make it happen without being asked. This month, we’re highlighting Brooke Barrett, David Benefield, and Sophia Marolt for their work on Northpoint Crossing Lofts. What made their contribution stand out was not just the outcome, but how they approached the process. Working across sales, operations, and design, they brought a level of collaboration and attention to detail that helped move the project forward in a thoughtful and coordinated way. From late-night coordination to proactively problem solving, their effort helped ensure a smooth and well-executed rollout. Their work reflects exactly what #MyHouse is all about. Congratulations to Brooke, David, and Sophia on this well-earned recognition, and to all of our recent #MyHouse recipients. Thank you for the impact you continue to make across our communities!
