TrialsNet has contributed to the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) White Paper on support to Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR), developed in collaboration with other SNS JU-funded projects. The paper explores how 6G technologies can strengthen societal resilience and support first responders through enhanced connectivity, AI-driven intelligence, integrated sensing, and hybrid terrestrial/non-terrestrial networks. TrialsNet contributed through three key use cases: 🔹 Smart crowd monitoring and anomaly detection (Madrid/Iași) 🔹 AI and drones for infrastructure asset management (Athens) 🔹 XR-based control rooms for emergency training and coordination (Turin) Together, these innovations demonstrate how #6G can help build safer, more resilient communities across Europe. We are pleased to share that TrialsNet was featured at Ericsson Imagine Italy, one of the country’s leading events for the telecom and digital innovation ecosystem. Held on 7 November at the MEET cultural center in Milan, the event gathered operators, industry leaders, institutions, and technology partners to discuss how next-generation infrastructures will shape Italy’s competitiveness. In a dedicated experience room, Ericsson and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) presented the TrialsNet project through a live demonstration of an advanced 5G-powered AI prosthetic hand. The demo highlighted how real-time #AI processing can be offloaded to high-performance servers via #5G, allowing the prosthesis to stay lightweight, responsive, and energy-efficient—without bulky onboard hardware. Visitors had the opportunity to see the prosthesis in action, using AI-based object segmentation and adaptive grip control developed at the Ericsson–IIT labs in Genoa and validated in Pisa (UC9). The presentation generated strong interest from participants, including representatives of all major Italian telecom operators, who engaged actively with the IIT and Ericsson teams on the technology and its potential impact. A big thank you to the presenters—Giancarlo Sacco (Ericsson), Federico Vasile, Giulia Caserta, and Lorenzo Natale (IIT)—for bringing TrialsNet’s innovation to the forefront of such a high-profile event. Together, we continue to demonstrate how 5G and Beyond can enable transformative applications in healthcare and beyond. Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU)
