Dr. Brent Forester shares his perspective about behavioral healthcare, access to care, workforce challenges and the need for better support systems for patients and families. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with Authority Magazine about the current state of behavioral healthcare in the United States and the urgent need to build a more integrated, accessible, and patient-centered system of care. In this conversation, we discuss the growing behavioral health crisis across the lifespan — from children and adolescents to older adults — and why the traditional separation between mental healthcare and the rest of medicine is no longer sustainable. We also explore the importance of team-based, value-oriented care models that integrate behavioral health directly into primary care and broader healthcare delivery systems. As both a clinician and healthcare leader, I continue to believe that improving behavioral healthcare in this country will require breaking down silos between psychiatry, primary care, neurology, and social services while investing in workforce development, prevention, and collaborative models of care. Many thanks to Authority Magazine for the thoughtful discussion. Giving the people closest to patient care a real voice in how that care is designed leads to better outcomes and stronger teams. Amy Hoey, RN, President of Tufts Medicine Lowell General Hospital, has spent her career living that philosophy. Under her leadership, Lowell General has earned a four-time Magnet designation, one of healthcare's most respected recognitions for nursing excellence. In our latest "5 Questions with" interview, Amy shares what drew her into nursing and why developing future leaders is one of her top priorities right now. Tufts Medicine reposted this
This is why we do this. An incredible few days at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) 2026 Annual Meeting. Highlights included visiting our Tufts University School of Medicine student’s poster on leveraging AI to match patients to clinical trials, hearing Malak Abedalthagafi ( AlThgafi), Tufts Medicine Chair of Pathology, speak on AI and precision medicine in oncology, and supporting our basic and clinician scientists across more than 35 abstracts, including at the Women in Eye and Vision Research (WEAVR) Luncheon. A meaningful reminder of the depth, collaboration, and momentum across our vision science community. #ARVO2026 #VisionScience #Ophthalmology #NewEnglandEyeCenter #ClinicalResearch #BasicScienceResearch #WomenInScience #TuftsMedicine #TuftsUniversitySchoolofMedicine #AcademicMedicine
