Violet is a happy, family-oriented woman who lights up most when they come to visit. She is truly quite the asset to our community at Oakley Courts Assisted Living Community, and we are so grateful to have her here. Violet enjoys simple comforts, confirming that her favorite food is “anything broiled!” Her favorite season is summer, and she is a devoted Chicago Cubs fan who also enjoys watching Hallmark Family movies. Creative at heart, Violet spent many years square dancing, sewing, knitting, and doing crafts. One of her proudest accomplishments is a hand-knitted sweater she made, which is still cherished and displayed in her granddaughter’s boutique. Some of her daughter’s favorite memories are crafting with her mom in the basement while spending quality time side by side. Violet and her husband built their favorite home together—a pink house in Forreston—and he even added a swing in the basement doorway so that the kids could swing indoors when the weather was bad. Creative, courageous, and full of love, Violet reminds us how meaningful family, laughter, and handmade memories can be!

At 86, Gary is a Navy veteran with a cheerful, easygoing spirit and a lifetime of great stories. He enjoys talking about fishing, painting oil landscapes, playing guitar, and listening to Elvis. You’ll often find him enjoying classic Westerns or cheering for the Vikings. Having lived in Minnesota and traveled as far as Tahiti, Gary enjoys staying active and social. He has been doing great since moving to Amelia Senior Living. He is closer to his family and can spend more time with them in his golden years! You will see pictures of his oil paintings that he has been working on within the community. Gary has been kind enough to share these oil paintings throughout Amelia, and the halls are decorated with his masterpieces!

We’re proud to have Mr. Gunning, an incredible Air Force Veteran, as a resident at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center! As a retired nurse, his dedication to being a positive influence continues to shine through in his compassion and kindness toward everyone he encounters. Mr. Gunning met his wife, Judy, when they were teenagers, and they had a long and loving marriage that lasted an incredible 67 years. When talking about his late wife, Mr. Gunning always lights up and says, “Judy was the best thing that ever happened to me.” Judy passed in 2024 at Carlinville Rehabilitation, where she was being treated for Alzheimer's. Every day, Mr. Gunning visited her, bringing teddy bears and flowers. And once she passed, and Mr. Gunning realized he needed additional care himself, he decided to move to Carlinville. “In a way,” he shares, “my Judy is still here.” Mr. Gunning speaks highly of the staff and the compassion they have shown both him and his family. We are grateful to have such an incredible person in our community!
