🌙 Rückblick auf den Terran Stammtisch Zürich 🌙 Der Terran Stammtisch Zürich hat sich bei uns getroffen! Wir durften die Community bei uns im Büro empfangen, mit dabei war auch unser CEO Luca Bortolani. Für alle, die den Begriff noch nicht kennen: Terran Schweiz setzt sich als Verein dafür ein, dass terranes Reisen, also bewusst, entschleunigt und klimafreundlich unterwegs, bekannter und beliebter wird. Statt immer eine Verneinung zu brauchen ("ohne Flugzeug unterwegs", "flugfrei gereist"), gibt es jetzt ein positives Wort dafür: terran. Der Abend startete mit Apéro & Austausch, bevor die Gäste unseren neuen Business-Class-Sitzprototyp direkt im Büro ausprobieren und anschliessend den Nachtbus live besichtigen durften. Ein schöner Abend mit einer Community, die genau das lebt, wofür wir bei Twiliner stehen. 💡 Knowledge Pill #1 💡 A recent study published in Transport Policy, titled "Rethinking Europe's airport ecosystem in the age of short-haul flight bans," explores a timely #question: ❓How would Europe's airport network change if short-haul flights were progressively restricted and replaced by ground transport ❓ Rather than looking at a single scenario, the researchers compared multiple policy approaches based on factors such as travel #distance and rail travel #time to understand which airports and routes would be most affected. Here are three key #takeaways: 🚆 1. Travel #time is a better #indicator than distance.  A longer journey with a fast, direct rail connection may be easier to replace than a shorter journey requiring multiple transfers. The study suggests that travel time is often a more meaningful criterion than kilometres alone. 🌍 2. There is #no one-size-fits-all #solution.  The study shows that the impact of restricting short-haul flights varies significantly across Europe. Countries with extensive high-speed rail networks, such as #France and #Spain, are better positioned to shift passengers from air to rail. In contrast, countries where rail connections are slower, less direct or less frequent face greater challenges, meaning that alternative low-carbon transport options become even more important. 🇨🇭 3. What about #Switzerland?  Switzerland presents an interesting case. The study finds that #Geneva (GVA) and #Basel (BSL) are less vulnerable to short-haul flight restrictions than #Zurich (ZRH), particularly under scenarios that only affect domestic flights. This is largely because Switzerland has very few domestic air routes, while many international connections still depend on air travel. The authors also note that ongoing rail improvements across the Alps could further strengthen the role of ground transport in the future. The future of #sustainablebusinesstravel isn't about replacing one mode of transport with another. It's about giving travellers the best #lowcarbon option for each #journey.
