  • “I feel happy coming to work because of the culture and the diversity of the team.” After his father became sick, Dennis realized he wanted a career where he could care for others in a more meaningful way. He transitioned from accounting to healthcare, started his career as a patient care tech, and continued advancing his education every step of the way — earning his bachelor’s in nursing, completing his master’s degree, and now pursuing his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. We’re proud to support team members like Dennis as they continue growing into the next generation of nursing leaders. • In a sea of Shock Trauma pink, look for the man in blue scrubs and red shoes. That is Drew Jordre, physical therapist at the University of Maryland Medical Center, R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, and those red shoes have become something of a legend. Patients know them. Team members know them. And anyone who has worked with Drew knows that what sets him apart goes far beyond his footwear. Drew gets on eye level with his patients. He remembers their progress. He listens, and not just clinically. He helps people see the big picture when everything feels impossible, and he makes them feel genuinely heard, seen, and cared for in the process. He attends conferences alongside our nursing team and the Brain Injury Association of Maryland to keep sharpening his craft. In his personal time, he plays community wheelchair basketball. And when patients return for outpatient visits, they come back looking for Drew specifically, to show him how far they have come. That is the kind of impact that does not show up in a chart. We are grateful for the man in red shoes. Thank you, Drew. #ShockTrauma #PhysicalTherapy #HealthcareHeroes #ProudToServe

  • "Victor saved my life." That's how the patient's thank-you message began. And it's why Victor Olekanma, RN, was honored with a DAISY Award for the quick thinking, clinical skill, and calm leadership he showed while helping resuscitate a patient during cardiac arrest in the UM Charles Regional Medical Center Emergency Department. In his own words: "I'm sending my deepest gratitude to Victor, Melissa, and the entire ER team at UM Charles, who provided medical support during my cardiac arrest. Victor was very attentive, caring, and polite. My sincerest gratitude." Resuscitating a patient takes skill, teamwork, urgency, and heart. Victor brought all four. Congratulations, Victor. Well-deserved. 🌼

  • Hospital Week is one week. The work never stops. To every team member across our system, from the nurses and physicians to the environmental services staff, schedulers, lab technicians, security officers, and everyone in between, thank you. Health care runs because of all of you, and that deserves celebration. Happy Hospital Week to the best teams in the business. #HospitalWeek #HealthcareHeroes #ProudToServe #TeamworkInHealthcare #ThankYou

  • Healing is not just clinical. Sometimes it is creative. UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute recently unveiled a permanent mural shaped by the hands and stories of the people who know healing best: our patients and team members. Under the guidance of community artists Jaz Erenberg and Blue Robin, participants explored their healing journeys through color and texture across a series of workshops, and their individual artwork came together to form something lasting. This mural is more than art on a wall. It is proof that recovery has many forms, and every journey deserves to be seen. #ArtAndHealing #CommunityArt
