From a $1,000 loan and a corner store on Sprague and Lee in 1934 to your pick for best grocery store chain — what a journey it's been. 90+ years ago, Mert Rosauer had the courage to open a small grocery store in the middle of the Great Depression. He probably never imagined where that leap of faith would lead. But this recognition reminds us that his founding values — quality products, clean stores, and friendly service — still mean something to this community. Spokane, you've been with us since the very beginning, and this award means everything to our team. Thank you for continuing to choose us, generation after generation. We don't take that for granted. #Rosauers #Since1934 #BestGroceryStore #ShopLocal #InlandNorthwest #VotedBest #CommunityFirst #RosauersFamily

February 2026 marks a significant milestone for URM Stores, Inc., 105 years of supporting our Member-Owners. This anniversary is far more than a number. It reflects 105 years of early mornings, warehouse shifts, trucks on the road, thoughtful risk-taking, steady leadership, and people committed to building an organization designed to endure. This year also brings several notable milestones worth recognizing. 91 years ago, in 1935, management signed its first labor contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for warehouse operations. That agreement established a foundation of partnership and long-term workforce stability that continues to shape our culture today. 90 years ago, in 1936, after raising funds through raffles, URM purchased its first three-quarter-ton truck. That investment symbolized ambition and belief in future growth at a time when resources were limited. It was a clear statement that the cooperative was prepared to invest in its own progress. 50 years ago, in 1976, URM expanded into Food Service and C-Store divisions, serving non-cooperative customers for the first time. This strategic decision broadened our reach and strengthened the organization while remaining true to our cooperative foundation. When viewed together, these milestones reveal a clear pattern: ·      We build through partnership. ·      We grow through thoughtful, strategic risk. ·      We adapt as markets evolve. ·      We honor our commitments. We stand today on 105 years of intentional decisions made by individuals who believed in something larger than themselves. Those who will celebrate our 150th anniversary will depend on the choices we make now. Thank you for being part of this legacy. Here’s to the next chapter.

  • Our Foodservice team hosted our annual Sweater Weather Get Together yesterday! We had a great time playing games, winning prizes, and socializing by the fire - all while enjoying warm drinks and food to celebrate the fall season. Every year, URM provides their employees with a free Thanksgiving turkey to thank them for all the work they do, and our employees were able to collect theirs! Thank you to the employee teams who organized and provided this fun event!
