The U.S. Secret Service, through the National Threat Assessment Center, continues to lead in the prevention of targeted violence through specialized training and cutting-edge research. Recently, the Secret Service presented some of its findings during a Lake County, Illinois, training event, providing law enforcement and school officials with strategies to identify and intervene with threats before they escalate to violence. NTAC’s research on behavioral threat assessment is instrumental in shaping best practices nationwide to combat targeted violence. Special Agent in Charge Michael Rice was a Vietnam War veteran, a 9/11 recovery volunteer and had a 26-year Secret Service career. He embodied the quiet professionalism and selfless service this agency was built on. His name is now permanently inscribed on the Secret Service Wall of Honor and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. We are grateful for his service.
