About us
The U.S. Space Force (USSF) is a new branch of the Armed Forces, established on December 20, 2019 with enactment of the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. The USSF was established within the Department of the Air Force, meaning the Secretary of the Air Force has overall responsibility for the USSF, under the guidance and direction of the Secretary of Defense. Additionally, a four-star general known as the Chief of Space Operations (CSO) serves as the senior military member of the USSF. The CSO is a full member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mission The USSF is a military service that organizes, trains, and equips space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. USSF responsibilities include developing military space professionals, acquiring military space systems, maturing the military doctrine for space power, and organizing space forces to present to our Combatant Commands. Did you know? Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program (GSSAP) is our "neighborhood watch" for the high frontier. These specialized satellites patrol near-geosynchronous orbit, delivering crystal-clear views of objects in space. By tracking, maneuvering, and characterizing, GSSAP enhances spaceflight safety, prevents collisions, and provides critical intelligence to protect our assets in orbit. #GSSAP #SemperSupra #SemperVenator #DidYouKnow

Today’s U.S. Space Force Guardians operate capabilities built on the legacy of space pioneers like John C. "Jack" Herther. A USAF veteran & MIT graduate, his master's thesis was foundational for the Agena spacecraft's guidance system. He later developed the revolutionary three-axis stabilization system for the CORONA reconnaissance satellite, a technology critical for hundreds of USAF and NASA missions. Herther's journey from military service to tech entrepreneur left a lasting impact on the space & intelligence technologies that secure our nation. #InnovationInDefense #TechTrailblazer #SpaceLeadership #EngineeringLegends #SpaceForce

In 1962, Ranger 4 became the first U.S. spacecraft to reach the Moon. Though a glitch prevented it from sending photos, its lessons were vital & helped pave the way for the Apollo missions. #SpaceHistory #NASA Read the story here: https://lnkd.in/eMUvm-BA
