I believe that AI, when implemented responsibly, is the lever we’ve been waiting for to finally bend the healthcare cost curve and improve patient outcomes. After spending the last few days in Washington, D.C., I am incredibly energized to see that leaders across policy and industry share this optimism. My trip kicked off at the Duke-Margolis Institute’s Health Policy Conference on "Driving Health Policy Transformation in the Next Decade." Hosted by Mark McClellan, the event featured a star-studded lineup including Karen DeSalvo, Jennifer Doudna, Robert Wachter, and Dave Ricks and more. The consensus was clear: while the EHR era laid the necessary groundwork by digitizing health records, the next ten years will be defined by AI, which has to have true data interoperability, and trust. Furthermore, to remain globally competitive our clinical trial infrastructure needs a major overhaul to become faster and more accessible. That is exactly the future we are building toward at Verily Health. Today, my colleague Adam Aten and I were invited to Capitol Hill by the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) to demonstrate how we are bringing this vision to life. Following excellent panel and fireside discussions featuring leaders like Seema Verma, Micky Tripathi, Carla Cartwright, and Luis Ungaro on the responsible use of healthcare AI, we demoed Verily Me. We showcased our patient-facing AI companion, Violet, including our recently launched symptom urgency assessment tool (learn more about our thoughtful design here: https://lnkd.in/gaifE5Z5). Our ambitions go much deeper than a single app. We are building the precision platforms required to make healthcare data truly "AI-ready." Our goal is to power the faster, smarter clinical trials the industry desperately needs, while also helping shape the future of AI-driven digital care. Innovation can't happen in a vacuum. It was inspiring to see the public and private sectors coming together this week, but we must remember our ultimate goal: the patient. We cannot ask patients to wait years for tools that have the potential to make a massive difference right now. The technology is here.
