Spring is plant season—but is your home pet-safe? Dr. Erin Smythe-Morey, medical director of Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin, shares that popular plants like pothos and philodendrons can cause painful mouth and throat irritation in cats if ingested. Her advice: always research before bringing a new plant home because many common varieties are more dangerous to pets than people realize. Today is World Donkey Day, and we're spotlighting three special members of the Veritas family. Meet Phil (1 year old), adopted by Dr. Jason Pintar, Garden State Veterinary Services Woodbridge medical director, and his wife. Once a tiny patient, Phil is now a fence-clearing future Olympian (despite only being 3 feet tall) with a love for rubber chickens. And say hello to Valentine and Huckleberry (around 5 years old), the affectionate duo belonging to Lesley Milstead, RVT, Veritas specialty talent acquisition lead. These clever companions trade “stubborn” stereotypes for hugs, scratches and loudly celebrating when breakfast is on the way! Though donkeys can often be misunderstood, these three show just how special the animal-human bond can be. #WorldDonkeyDay #VeritasVeterinaryPartners #GSVS #VetMed

Across the country, 40 states have legalized medical marijuana and 24 have legalized recreational marijuana. With increased legalization and decreased stigmatization, it’s no wonder that veterinary hospitals are seeing a rise in accidental #cannabis exposure in pets. We’re proud to see Dr. Allison Rohde Newgent, medical director at Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services, featured in ConsumerAffairs, sharing expert insight on this growing pet safety concern. April is #EarthMonth and we believe exceptional medicine and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. Across our hospitals, we prioritize practical ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, recycle, repurpose equipment and operate more efficiently. At Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, that commitment is brought to life through its LEED-certified facility, a reflection of how thoughtful design and sustainability can support both patients and the planet.
