As we kick off National Foster Care Awareness Month, we are reminded that the power of one caring adult can change a child's life forever. Meet CASA Melanie. Through her dedicated advocacy, she helped baby Esperanza navigate severe medical challenges, transition out of the NICU, and find stability in a new home. In court, the Judge told Melanie, "In Spanish, the name 'Esperanza' means 'hope,' and that is the gift you have given this child." Esperanza is just one of more than 8,500 children living in foster care in San Diego and Riverside Counties. They all deserve a happy, healthy childhood and a consistent, caring adult to speak up for their needs.
