Base pay range
The Assistant Director of Residential Education will manage and coordinate the residential functions associated with the residential experience for students and staff. Utilizing a team approach (through the direct supervision of professional staff and indirect supervision of para-professional staff) and exercising sound judgment to facilitate a positive living environment within residential communities. Manage administrative tasks associated with the residential area, including but not limited to purchasing, conduct review, and scheduling as well as, implementation of initiatives that promote a sense of community in the residential area. Assist with the development and training of career and student staff. Provide crisis response through participation in on-call duty rotation. Acknowledge the diversity of the student body, to work proactively toward creating a community atmosphere in which people respect each other's rights, properties, and sensitivities. Identify and articulate student needs and issues within a developmental framework and collaborate with others in the department to provide an effective departmental/institutional response to those needs and issues. Regular office hours are required and visibility to the campus community and student body is important. Some evening and weekend work is required. The full salary range for the Assistant Director of Residential Education is $62,900.00 - $110,100.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $75,000.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
- Skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication; multitasking and intercultural competence.
- Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
- Skills in project management.
- Strong leadership skills with an ability to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors.
- Social Justice Competencies
- Awareness of interpersonal impact and demonstrated skill in interpersonal conflict management. Social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
- Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
- Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
- Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
- Ability to develop original ideas and problem solve.
- Ability to conduct effective meetings and guide strategic planning initiative.
- Awareness of assessment practices (qualitative and quantitative).

Generic Scope
Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.
Custom Scope
Provides supervision to Student Services Assistants ensuring that procedural guidance to students is timely and accurate. Directs subordinates to guidelines, procedures, and processes.
