College for Health, Community and Policy
UTSA’s College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) trains students to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of our communities. By engaging directly with the City of San Antonio and other key community partners, students and faculty live the college's mission to advance human health every day. The college is comprised of seven academic departments and one program —criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work and sociology and demography —as well as the Center for Applied Community and Policy Research, the Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research and the Institute for Health Disparities Research. Department of Public Administration
The Department of Public Administration in the College for Health, Community and Policy at the University of Texas at San Antonio is located at UTSA’s Downtown campus, the heart of San Antonio. The Department currently offers an undergraduate degree in Public Administration and Policy and a Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA). Position Summary
This position is an opportunity to serve students in two academic programs that prepare students to lead as innovators in public service. While the Department will be located at the main campus, courses in the Master of Public Administration programs will remain at the Downtown Campus in the heart of the city’s central government and business district with proximity to community leaders and the nonprofit sector. This position also includes teaching in the Bachelor of Public Administration and Policy program which has been recognized for exemplary experiential and career-engaged learning. Our programs are deeply rooted in the local community and our faculty bring critical thinking and problem solving to their research and teaching.
This position would have a baseline teaching requirement of 4 undergraduate or graduate courses in the Public Administration Department each semester, and may include administrative appointments, such as undergraduate advisor of record and/or internship coordinator, which would reduce this teaching load.
Required Qualifications
For the Assistant Professor of Instruction position, a terminal degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science or related field.
For the Assistant Professor of Practice position, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science or related field.
This position requires the ability to maintain the secruity and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience at the college level, especially incorporating active or experiential learning, and administrative experience at the college level.
Engagement in service related to undergraduate students, potentially including curriculum and competency development, advising, and recruitment/retention is preferred.
Alternative experiences such as a professional background in the public or non-profit sector will also be considered.
